It will get noticeably louder, every Flowmaster I have had and have currently take awhile to break in.It depends on how often the car is driven. You will know when it finally breaks in,don't worry.

Mine took about a month to break in. It goes from somewhat rattly and metallic, to very throaty and growly yeaaaa... oh, and do a couple heavy-foot runs, like hittin' 4500+rpms through first and second gear every once in a while... it seems to help the muffler break in... also sounds kick @$$ after a hard drive... even deeper. hehehe... props 4 goin' with Flows!

What, How do you break in a Flowmaster, there all metal consruction. Dynomax's only get louder because the deadening material settles, I don't know how a all metal Flomaster could break in nothing should move internally.

Mines been pretty damn loud right from the time I got the engine running with it on .....

It was REALLY loud when I had a PROM in there that was *less than ideal* for my engine........

mine sounded a little different after time...but then again sometimes it sounds like it was brand new...who knows.

does anyone have specifics on how this "break in"actually happens? i am a little skeptical...i mean it is just a muffler.

the only thing that i can think of is maybe there is like a carbon buildup on teh inside of the muffler that will absorb sound a little differently?

anybody know for sure?

Like I said in my last post I dont think that anything breaks in on Flomasters something would have to phisically move to make it louder.

its probably carbon buildup. I didn't believe people either till I noticed it myself. That didn't happen with the flowmaster on my jeep. It sounds the same as ever. The one of the Firebird definatly got louder.

It's the muffler bearings! They start to wear out after a month or two, and the muffler makes more noise. Remember to replace the muffler bearings at regular intervals.
I vote that the flowmaster getting louder thing is crap. I own the american thunder 3" system, and it didn't get louder. That other guy is right, it's all metal inside. Carbon on the aluminized walls on the inside of a muffler will not make it louder.

I actually *heard* that from being used the baffles inside the muffler start to bend and melt some and that changes the sound after a while. I don't know though.

I'd agree, the sound flowmaster puts out is one that gets better with age.A complete catback system in 3"(including cat)is hard to beat in performance, sound and value for the money.I have the 3"cat,intermediate,and dual out muffler-just awesome.A nice DEEP,loud sound, but not too annoying!

I don't know about it getting louder over time, since I installed headers about a month after putting the american thunder system on, but it certainly got a hell of a lot louder after header install. My car sounds 10x more capable than it is.... it sounds like a beast. Everyone agrees that my car is one of the baddest sounding rides around here.
