pipe fit question for 88 camaro

Sorry if this is in the search but i attempted to find it.

I have an 88 camaro that was a 6 but is now a 355 with headers and it seems that I cant fit 3 inch exhaust under the car... My question is does or has anyone ran into the same problem? If so how did you fix it or not fix it. thanks. Please someone talk to me about it, I know alot of posts go unread and I am really desperate, thank you.

does your car have the stock size wheels and tires on it? if you are talking about a 3 inch cat-back then you shouldnt have any problem. yes it will be a little lower to the ground but not that much. just dont go over too many speed bumps and you should be ok.

any single 3" catback system should fit fine as far as clearance goes. can you be more specific as to what the problem is, or maybe were not understanding the question...?

I bought the car recently and the people said when they were fitting the 3 inch it wouldnt fit but 2 1/2 most likely would but wasnt recommended. Numerous other people said 3 would fit after looking at the car. I think it is because right after the headers ther is a piece of metal and the exhaust would have to curve down too much but I really dont know. The car is sitting at stock height also. thank you for your help. Here is some pictures for any more type of suggestions.

from that pic it looks like you just have turn downs after the headers? if you are wanting to run true duals you wont be able to fit 3 inch under your car. most people use 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 for duals. but a cat back is one 3 inch i-pipe that goes from your catalytic converter to an aftermarket muffler adn then has a single or dual tips depends on what one you get. if that is what you want to do then you will have to have a y-pipe made or get a set of headers with a y-pipe.

what would the reason be for not being able to do dual 3 inch? Someone else suggested that and didnt give a specific reason. Also what is the difference between an x and a y pipe. I have an idea but not sure.

you probably could run 3 inch duals but if u hit a little tiny bump it will bottum out. i think the main reason is because of the tranny mount, the pipes wont go under it withought scraping on the ground. and a y pipe makes your headers flow together and go into a single pipe and an x pipe still has the doul in and doul out design so you keep duals. do some searching on duals, there are alot of posts and alot of pictures and it might help you understand. hope it helps and good luck

aside from what he already mentioned, there is less room to take a 3" pipe over the axle on the drivers side than the passengers side which is where single exhaust systems are routed. there are other problems that arise too, but those are probably the main ones.
