Borla Exhaust
Borla Exhaust
I bought an 86 Iroc with the borla exhaust system already installed. But i want the car to be loud. to do this my friend suggested either a cut-out, or to replace the muffler with a resonator. i just wanted to see some opinions of which would sound better and if anyone knew how much either of these things would cost. so basically, what would you do if you were me and you wanted a loud car?

I briefly look into buying a Borla system....if you have the same system I looked at, there already is an adjustable cutout. I'll try to explain.
BEFORE the muffler, there is a sort of Y-pipe. One leg of the Y goes into the muffler as normal, and the exhaust fumes exit through the left side tailpipe.
On the other leg of the Y, is a direct connection to the passenger side tailpipe, with no muffler. At the place where the tailpipe connects to the Y, it can be unbolted. The kit includes various pieces...... there may be a solid plate in there, or a plate with a small, medium, or large hole. If you replace the plate with one with a larger hole, more exhaust will bypass the muffler, making it louder.
I'd imagine that you could buy the plates from Borla or Summit, or make your own, or enlarge the one already on your car.

This is the same borla system I purchased back in 91 or 92. I orginally had it on the 86 Z28 but it now resides in the RS. Look at the pics :

Borla sells a system that is just the muffler and single side exut tail pipes and its not adjustable. Sounds like thats the on you have. I have the adjustble one an its pretty loud.
