Hooker Super Competition Headers/SLP

Anybody used Hooker Super Competition Headers? Was the application for a single exhaust system?

I do NOT want the AIR Tubes, so I am looking for high quality options to SLP. Any other suggestions? I know that Heddman has a coated set of headers also.

What are your suggestions?

SLP does sell their headers without air tubes, just call them for the part number for your car. They usually dont make this a well known fact.I bought a set and cut off the air tubes only to find out that night I could buy them without them and not have to cut up brand new headers, that sucks!Always research you purchases,I was in a rush to get my new motor fired and running and just ordered.

Hooker Comp headers 2460's are available without the A.I.R. tubes (but do have O2 bung). They do not make a y-pipe for them, so you'll have to get that fabricated. They are also available coated.

They have as good as or better qualities than their Super Comp shorties. The Super Comps (2055's) go to a single cat, for what that's worth. The 2460 collectors are much better than the 2055's.

five7,
I went to the hooker site, but it didn't say anything about a y-pipe to go to the cat. What is the fab work you wer talking about to get these headers to fit? Also, I finally have a dual snorkel on the way, how do I work the heat riser?

Onebad82z,
how did you seal the air tubes after you cut them off? I'm thinking of buying a set of used slp's (save some $$$) with the tubes but i would like them removed. I'll prolly just end up buying new ones if it's a hassle.

The Hooker 2460's...are they the ones that cost $141 bucks??? How does one go about fabricating their own Y-Pipe?

The 2460's are the "Comp" shorties for $141, and do not come with a y-pipe, nor is one available. An exhaust shop can make one to fit the headers and your cat. But, it will probably be expensive.

Wiggy, not sure what fab work you think I said, but the 2460's require what I say above. I have said on other posts that the 2055 collector ball flanges should be opened up after you've done a fit check because they're delivered with a 1.9" opening. FWIW, the "Super Comp" 2055's have a CARB EO tag welded on to the #1 primary tube, I don't know if the 2460's do.

For the heat tube, I just stick the flex hose between and above the #3 and #5 primaries, let it pull warm air from between them. Seems to work okay.

I have the Hooker SC/LT headers on my 383 '87 IROC. They have no AIR tubes. I believe they are model #2210. I also used the Mufflex 3" to 4" y-pipe. I use a single 3" Dynomax muffler around town and just the y-pipe at the track.

Hey Black 84 Z

I welded up the holes left when I cut off the air tubes and then ground the welds down to make them look a little better.really wasnt hard at all, just hurt to cut up brand new headers, research before you buy.I cant see a shop charging you more than $10 to weld them up after you cut them.

Thanx, I think i'm just gonna buy the new ones. He finally gave me a quote on them and said $350. Think I'll pass since it really isn't what i'm looking for, and new ones from SLP cost just a bit more.
