I am running a Dynomax Sport Turbo with no CATS and it sounds great... it isn't the loudest exhaust going (but I wasn't looking for that when I bought it) but it has a nice throaty growl from 2000 rpm's up.. at idle it has a low rumble...

Not like a Flowmaster but definitely a nice sound for sure. I recommend it.

I should have said "Super Turbo" not Sport (had a Sport turbo on my Sunbird GT). And I expect the sound to improve as the muffler gets "broke in". When I finally get a set of headers I think I will have the perfect sound that I am looking for.

The reason why i asked was because my frinds mustang has dynomax turbo mufflers on it and his car has a really nice low tone too it like a low roar or growl and i was wondering if it would sound the same on our cars?i am mixed up cause i don't know whether or not to get the 80 series flow master or the dynomaxy turbo , dynomax is suppose to have better flow.

Just thought I'd offer my thoughts on the gutted cat. My cat started to come apart inside and catylist turned sideways, blocking off the exhaust. The engine had nooo power. Luckily it was only the front section that was damaged, and all the little bits didn't go down the pipe into the muffle and rattle around. Back on track, I was running a gutted cat. Now I see it as something I shouldn't have done. If you need the look of a catto pass inspections, then run a straight pipe through the shell or something. What is happening right now in your gutted cat, is that the exhaust gets a chance to expand into this much larger chamber. It is really happy to be getting bigger, and when it comes time to get back into that much smaller hole, it gets ugly. Obviously we know who's gonna win, but it's gonna cost some HP and flow. It is kind of like using progressive headers, that are 1 5/8 at the primaries and progressively swells up to 1 3/4 or 1 7/8. What this does is allows the use of larger diameter headers that don't destroy the bottom end. As the exhaust swells, it 'pulls' itself, creating a vacume behind itself to help the next pulse. Similar to the tri-Y headers.

I have a super turbo muffler on my 91 305 TBI and I like the sound. Low rumble at idle. Sounds much better than my friend's 84 vette with no cat and flowmasters.

I have a 3inch cat back with a dynomax muffler and it sounds great. It isn't the loudest muffler, but is has a very nice low rumble at idle and comes alive when you get on it. Also has a great tone when you let off the gas. Also, the dynomax muffler outflows the flowmaster by a large ammount. My exhaust was on the car when I bought it and if not I probably wouldn't have gone with the dynomax muffler, but I am sure glad it is on there. Dynomax doesn't get raved about like many other exhaust manufacturers, but it flows very well and has a great sound. Go's to show you that just because a product isn't used by everyone on earth, doesn't mean it's not a quality product.

I was also wondering if there is a big sound difference if lets say a dynomax turbo muffler was on a 5.0 mustang and one on a 350tpi. or would they be close to the same tone and sound, considering too the mustang has headers but the cats arn't gutted compared to the camaro having manifolds its cat gutted with a straight pipe through it?

No. WHile I love my Firebird, one thing is true, it will never sound like a Mustang. Mustangs sound awsome, and it wont matter if you run glasspacks you wont get the same sound form a Firebird. Its the difference between single and dual exhaust. You can make a Firebird/Camaro sound good, but not like a Mustang.

From what i understand, the difference isn't all about the true duals aspect, but rather the firing order of 302 that gives it the different sound. the 305 wont sound like a mustang unless you drop a ford 302 in. I could be wrong, but just saying dont spend a fortune on true duals expecting to sound like a mustang.

Do you want your car to sound like a Mustang, or as good as a Mustang?

If you want it to sound like a Mustang, then go buy a Mustang.

If you want it to sound as good as a Mustang, then buy Flowmaster, because that's all anyone with a Mustang uses. And PAXTON. That's all you ever see is a pre-1994 Mustang with Flows and a PAXTON!!!!!!

If you want a great sounding Camaro, then buy MAC, or Ravin', or Borla, or Hooker. etc.

Mustangs do sound good, don't construe what I've said. But a Chevy V-8 has a distinct sound to. They sound just as good as a F-uckers O-nly R-oll D-ownhill, just different.

don't worry i am getting a mustang convertible but i just like the low tone that the super turbo gave off i already bought the system 2 hours ago off ebay its 2.75 midpipe with 2.5 outs. I didn't want the engine sound of a mustang just the low deep tone so people can feel my car when i drive by.if you don't know what i mean go to dynomax.com and go to sounds then go to the 5.7l firebird super turbo sound and it will tell all.

Oh, I have the Dynomax cat-back. I luv mine. Wouldn't have anything else. Mine's the 2.5" in/ two - 2.5" out. I just cut off the 30* elbows on the tailpipes, and put straight pipes coming out the back using single chrome, angle cut tips on. It changed the sound quite a bit. It has a much more distinct sound now.

Where did you hear 2.75" mid-pipe? That's kind of an odd-ball size, isn't it? Why didn't they just use 3"? That would be a PITA to match anything else up to it, such as a cut out, or if you removed the cat, or even changed mufflers without changing the pipe.
