today i had to re-gap my spark plugs. i was working on on my car for 3 hours today. it is inpossible to get a stock size spark plug out of the #5 cylinder. i have tried everything. there isn't enough room to get a spark plug socket on it. there is about a 1/2 inch of clearence between the end of the plug and the primary on the header. i also tried an open ended wrench and that didn't work. please anyone who has had the fun experience of doing this please let me know how you got the #5 plug out. thanks alot.

get Accel shorty header plugs and use either an open or clsed wrench i think its 5/8

i used an open and closed wrench and still ahd no luck. i think im going to go to the local speed shop tomorrow and order those shorty plugs. they sound like a good idea.

I went with the stock plugs with those headers too... big mistake. I am not looking forward to changing the plugs, and when I do, I'm DEFINATELY getting the shorties.

Okay........screw those short piece of crap Accel plugs......try these cheap and easy tricks.....

Get a cheap spark plug socket and put it to a bench grinder...grind the length off on the spark plug end, being sure to leave enough "meat" to get on the plug to get it out / install it.

I did this for my #7 plug on my IROC w/ the Hedman's. That's gotta be another point for the Hedman headers, I can change the plugs, all 8, in less than an hour easy, and that's checking / setting the gap on each one.

All plugs but the #7 are reachable with a swivel spark plug socket, if not a straight one.

I had the same problem with my 2055s but with the #7 plug. I used a dremel to cut some off the front and back of the socket and then cut a notch in the side about 1.5" long and 3/4" wide so it will slip on at an angle from the side. Next time I'm getting the shorty plugs!

I know this sounds bad but ever think about breaking the spark plug off? If you break it off you'd probably be able to get a socket in there and loosen up the rest of it. If you're replacing them anyway what good are they so just bust 'em off

Accel shorties, i was thinkin about cuttin off the wrench thingy as well but i just went shorties and they work now but barely, try the accels first, as for breaking the old spark plugs off, that guys gotta screw loose dont do that.

If you cant get a socket on it then breaking it so you can seems like the next best idea to me. no harm in it seeing that you are replacing them anyways.

my dad is bringing in a socket to his work today and the machinist will cut it for me. ill let every one know how it works.

I changed my plugs last summer,,,,while I had manifolds. But i got my flowtechs on now and I have a feeling im going to have a hard job getting out half of them if I have to.

I have hooker 2210s, and I can use full length plugs since I shortened a spark plug socket, but I got the shorties because I was having problems with burning wires since they were so close. Now I can change all of the plugs in half an hour to 45 minutes even with a normal spark plug socket(even though its a little easier on a couple plugs still with my shortened one) and regaping them all. I use a wrench on the end of the spark plug socket instead of trying to fit the ratchet in there and it works real well.

my dad just got home and he cut the plug socket. he also at to drill out the square in the middle (were the drive goes), so that it would go over the plug. heres some pics ot the new vs. the old socket.

oh yeah it works amazing. you should all try it.

I know that sounds funky but it'll really work with no harm done. The porcelin(spell?) breaks off easily and you arent going to damage the nut at all. Porcelin will break long long before metal ever will.
