blasphemous question...quieter exhaust?

say i want to put a REALLY QUIET exhaust on a fast engine....would that restrict the engine or can you quiet it w/o hurting the performance? everybody wants a louder and meaner exhaust....but every **** rocket has a loud exhaust, and it's def not cool...id rather have a quiet ride that smokes you.

I don't really know of any exhaust that is real quite, yet doesnt restrict. Keep in mind there is a difference between a loud bumble bee and a loud rumble from a v8.

Exactly, a powerfull V8 should be loud and sound nice, but not those cars. For a low sound I think Dynomax makes some mufflers like that.

The Dynomax Superturbo is fairly quiet.

I always thought of leaving the stock GM Muffler on my car when I put a beefy engine! I dont know if it would restrict it though? I will definitley keep checking this thread!

Yup and the Dynomax are some of the best flowing mufflers you can get.

Don't use stock dude!!

So a stock muffler does restrict it?

Walker makes a good quiet muffler thats supposed to flow a good amount more then stock and run quieter.

I just thought it would be cool to have a quite car with a powerful engine. I have a RS and I am in the process of putting a TPI setup on a built up motor. It would be fun between the RS badges and quite car to blow people off the road but my stripes and hood would still give it away!

StealthElephant - I was going to post up the same question myself tonite. I also favor a nice quiet ride - the kind that no one would suspect has any real *****. I already have one really loud car already (1970 Formula) I was checking out a 383 which I plan on sticking in my GTA. The motor is an animal. It's worked and has a full SLP exhaust all the way to the tips, but it is so freakin loud I'm sure my neighbors/neighborhood will really hate me. (more than they do now - if possible)

Anyone have any sound clips or comparisons with other mufflers in regards to a quiet/quieter high performance muffler? I kinda like driving around incognito with no one suspecting any real challenge. Surprise!

First off, we're talking about a worked engine with a gutted random tech cat to the SLP muffler which is the no restriction type (straight thru) Th car wasn't loud at idle, but when you gave it some gas - loud as hell. I'm wondering if a Walker muffler will do the trick or not. I just went to the their site and I'm still trying to find out a little more about them.

I wish I could get some feedback from someone who has a Walker muffler on their car?
