Edelbrock OR SLP
hi guys, im planning on buying some headers for my iroc soon got 600 bucks in tha bank now
and alot more to come this coming paycheck
so i was wondering which headers where worth getting. tha edelbrock or tha slp's. i heard tha slp's are way better than anyother type of headers but there around 500 bucks or so and tha edelbrocks are like in tha high 300's. so i was wondering if it was really worth tha price diffrence.

The edelbrocks will rust if not coated, so that will add to the price. The SLPs flow better, but don't fit as good.

Just goes to show you that everyone's experience is different. I've owned both brands. The Edelbrock's gave me a fit in terms of installation. And I could never get them to not touch the passenger side frame rail. This caused an unbearable vibration at idle. The SLP's slid right into place and bolted right on. And these are the 1-3/4" headers. Today, I wouldn't consider any other brand.
BTW, I don't know if this is dated material, but way back when I bought the Edelbrocks which are labeled as 1-5/8", only four tubes were. The remaining four were 1-1/2". This was their way of designing a compromise into their header that supposedly produced more torque and hp over a broader rpm range. I don't know if they still make them this way, but it's worth inquiring about.
Shouldn't this post be in the Exhaust forum????

Maybe I was lucky, but my SLPs gave me very little trouble with installing them. I did need to dimple the driver side primary like some others, but I didn't let that bother me too much. I probably could have corrected it the "right" way with new motor mounts, but I didn't want to add to the project at that point. Otherwise, they fit very well, and I like the fact that they are stainless.
However, they aren't cheap and SLP does try to stick it to you with the install kit and the cat adaptor pipe. I bought the install kit, but got my cat adaptor from NAPA. Just a standard 45* bend - not stainless. It fits perfectly. My plugs went in with less trouble than changing them with manifolds.
Overall, I'd do it again. Good Luck with whatever you choose.

but needs some more help, either grinding down the shaft in that area, or oval the header tube

My 1 5/8" cleared the steering shaft no prob, but the y-pipe was a whole different matter. Looked like it was made too long and the d/side pipe didnt want to fit into the Y.

how or where does one get them jet hot coated? it's to protect the finish and to keep them cool correct?
i got a great deal on some new edelbrocks ($275), so i'm hoping i'll see some sort of gain in performance? I seem to be quite outnumbered with all the SLP's here, but for half the price, i hope i get something outta them!?!
thanks!

go to jet-hot.com and email them. That how I did it. They are GREAT to deal with, I had it done about a month ago and just today in the mail, I received a Thank you card from them, a really great business to deal with, plus my headers look great, and they won't rust! I'll post pictures in a couple days

I paid $315 for my 1-5/8" steel Edelbrock headers, back in '94 & had them bead blasted & painted them with black VHT paint - they fit great & I have over 130K miles on them in my '92 Z with no problems.
I also have a set of the SPL 1-5/8" stainless headers on my '84 Berlinetta - they fit great, as well, & I did not have them coarted, either.
The only difference I can see is the SLPs allow much easier routing of the spark plug wires from the top - had to run the wires from the bottom with the Edelbrocks, or they'd get toasted - even with fire sleeving.
