Headers and PS pump bracket
Headers and PS pump bracket
I recently installed the Heddman headers and Y pipe to my 83 CFI Z28 (along with a new motor and a carb). My power steering pump is bolted by two bolts to the block and a head. With the old manifolds there was another bracket to bolt to the PS pump. With headers, it no longer fits. I did a search and found that a TPI car could just use a non-ac power steering pump bracket. I do not have TPI, but i did remove my AC. Will this bracket work for me? Is there another bracket I can get? Is there a way to fabricate another one or to make the old one work? Thanks.

i used an old bracket from my 90 sunbird and drilled a slot in it for the bolt on the pump, then attached it to the one flat bracket that fits up snug against the front of the head. It worked for me, although i need to make another piece that attaches to the side of the head due to pump comin loose.

with mine i simply used the original manifold bolt and put on the old manifold bolt washers as spacers til it fit. Its not real pretty but works really well, until I can find or make a spacer to fit in that spot. Once I did that the braket fit back perfectly and have not had any problems.

The factory V-belt setup used (2) brackets there.....one for the power steering pump and one for the AC. The top part of the power steering bracket goes over the stud on the end of the exhaust bolt that installs in the front driver side bolt hole. The AC bracet has a hole thaet goes over this.
All you need to do is cut the back part of the AC bracket off so it will slide up to the exhaust stud. The steering bracket goes under that.
The header you installed is much thinner than the exhaust manifold, so all you need to do is get something to take up the distance act as a spacer. I used a piece of stainless pipe the correct size and just painted black, using washers on each end so the bolt could be tightened down.
