questions about which headers to go with......stock L98's come in...
I have recently purchased a 91Z28 L98/A4 combo...with 88,000original miles. It has the Dynomax catback on an otherwise stock dual cat setup. On my other Z, I had longtubes, but the motor was pretty much NOT stock. This one I plan on keeping near stock....internally anyway, except maybe a Compucam or something like that down the road. My question is, does $1000 for Hooker LT's and Mufflex Ypipe justify what performance gains Ill get??? I plan on upgrading the intake a little...(TPIS baseplate, 52mmTB, etc), but should I pay that much for exhaust on a basically stock TPI???? Or should I go with the Hooker 2055/2460's??? I need some help here....I would like to keep it emissions legal if possible, as they are getting stricter every year, and my luck if I take it off...they will change the law which means Id be up u know what creek without a paddle........any help here would be really appreciated.

KYL98, I don't know if you can really ever justify performance mods other than maybe nitrous. it seems to be the cheapest bang for the buck. I just received my new Jet Hot coated SLP 1 3/4 headers at a cost of 675.00 plus I'm installing a Mufflex 3.5 cat back with Spintech muffler and Random Technology dual cats with a Flowmaster Y pipe after the cats all totaling about $1685.00 not to include installation which I'm doing myself. I'm also installing SVO 24# injectors and SLP High Flow runners totaling $480.00 All total $2165.00, sorry but even if I tried real hard I couldn't justify it. We just do it. Because it looks cool, sounds cool and a little horsepower. What do you think I'll get for my money maybe 25- 30 hp. Do you really think $75- $85 per hp is justifyable? Nah, not really. If you want to justify your outlay invest in the money market. For your grand you could get a nice nitrous system and get a whole lot more horsepower you just wouldn't look as cool without the headers.

I just meant...will the big exhaust with the Hooker LT's and Mufflex 3in Ypipe be too much for a pretty much stock L98??? Im just searching for answers in terms of driveability, mpg, etc. ANother point to my question is, would I be wasting my money on that much exhaust? Would the Edelbrock TES be ok? Or do the LT's help stock motors as well as big cam big head street motors?? Im really leaning towards the Hooker/Mufflex setup, just want to make sure Im not wasting money/time.....know what I mean??

I don't think so. The 350 should respond pretty well to that system. Some guys swear by LTs. I think the Mufflex system is tops.
For a near stock 350 like yours you should go with 1 5/8 headers. Everyone seems to think the type of headers you get depends on displacement. That is not true. What is does depend on is how much hp you are pushing out or will be pushing out in the future. A 350 hp 305 would be better suited using 1 3/4 than a 245 hp 350. Understand what I'm saying. 1 3/4 is overkill until you are making around 350 + hp no matter what anyone else says. If you plan on staying relatively stock with the exception of bolt ons 1 5/8 headers with a good 3 inch catback will do lots for you. Anything bigger will just be complete overkill.

True I wouldn't go any bigger than 1 5/8 on LT's unless you plan some big mods. I used the 1 3/4 because this is going to be a 383 car with much better heads and cam in the future. but I still want it to pass emissions so I kept the shorty headers and cats. Man do the Jet Hot SLP's look nice.

Im just went ahead and ordered the LT's and Mufflex Ypipe. Hell, its only money...
I figured Id go ahead and put new motor mounts in also....so I can get the clearance issues out of the way now....I also ordered a custom grind Compcam today and should be here in time for the exhaust......The specs on the cam are .485/.501 with 1.6rr and 212/218 @.050. Should work well with the "stock" chip I have in now.
I think the bigger primaries and longer exhaust duration will work well together.....I also did some dyno testing yest....pretty impressive numbers...at the wheels I had 220hp @ 4800 and 330tq @ 2600. Is that pretty good for a basically stock motor....and some 3in exhaust? and some "minor" prom tuning....???? Ill post more numbers for the exhaust and cam seperately when I install them if possible. Thanks for all the help guys.......
