loud as a 4th gen??

Hey guys, There are 4th gens running around where I live and they are soo much louder then my car and so deep. I have headers, gutted cat, 3 inch I-pipe, and a flowmaster. I don't see why mines not as loud as theres. Is there something about the LT1 & LS1 that makes them so loud? I was thinking that it might be that they have the SLP LoudMouth exhaust on there cars because I have heard that it is really really loud. Well any opinion or fact on the subject please inform me cause I am willing to drop some bills on a new muffler if it's needed (well wanted lol). Thanks guys

If they have the SLP Loudmouth, their cars will definitely be louder than any car with Flowmasters.

Yup, the SLP LM most likely on LT1's because they sound better than LS1's. (L98's sound better than both, IMO) They don't make them for Third Gens. Thats just SLP for you.

I agree, LS1's and LT1's do sound good....I've heard a bunch....but my 91 Z L98 sounds much louder then both...

My 3" American thunder catback is just as loud as my friends 95 z28 with a loud mouth, and my friends 97 cobra with no cats and flowmasters at idle.

I cannot tell who's is louder when driving, we'd need some people to drive our cars by

If you put a 3rd gen or any other gen for that matter up against a 4th gen with the same size and brand of exhaust they will all have the same level of loudness regardless. I don't get it, 4th gens are not only unbeatable on this site, but they are also way louder as well?

When i first got my 84 TA i went eveywhere to try and find out what i should get. and the top-o-the line custom exhaust shop said to me "u want loud, u need more hp" and the 2000 Z28 has like 305 hp and my L69 has 190 hp and 350 to a 305, so they r gona be louder. i have no mufller and the way a SLP LM is like no muffler and the LM is ALOT louder than mine with no muffler. in a way it's like asking y is a V6 camaro with LM not as loud as a Z28 with LM, i mean they r they same exhaust setup.

4th gens arent loud... they might have a better exhaust note, but i have my stock exhaust on my car(ELT baby!!), and it sounds pretty mean. Also, 4th gen cams are a tat bit more on the duration and lift then gen I blocks are. the LM is just a resonator. If anyone wanted to make one for Third gens, just chop a section off of the I pipe, weld in a resonator you can acutaly buy from SLP, and then split it off before the axle just like SLP makes. Its not that hard, and any 350 with a big cam and alum heads with 10:1+ compression will sound frickin awesome. 25th is right... stop makin 4th gens to be so big and bad. There not unstopable, as shown in the street/drag racing board. And LS1's arent 350's, there 346's. Same thing goes for 305's, if you had all the stuff i said before, it would sound good and prob. better then a 4th gen.

Stock 4th Gens sound lousy and IMO usually do even when not stock. And SBC's definetly sound better than the LS's, same thing goes for the 60* V6's over the 4ths V6's. Third Gens always sounded good/better and just sound incredible (350's!!) when modded. Third Gen.

Let me put it too you this way, and I know all of this for a fact. Take my 2000 Z28 and put a flowmaster 3 inch catback on it, now take my 94 Z28 and put a 3 inch flowmaster catback on it, now take my 92 RS and again, put a flowmaster 3 inch catback on it. You start them up, they will each have their own exhaust note, with the LT1 and the 305 tbi having very similar sounds. The LS1 will sound a bit different due to the design of the engine, but they will all have the same loudness at idle or part throttle. At full throttle the LT1 and LS1 might be a bit louder because as you said, they are pushing out more hp, which means more gasses, but it won't be a huge difference.

I think they changed the fireing order on the LS1 thats why they sound different. The lt1 and 3rd gen v8 should sound simmular.

A good shop can fit a 4thgen Loud Mouth on a 3rdgen for you. Matter of fact Ill be picking up a ypipe, cat and SLP Loud Mouth w/ single slashed tips tomorrow to go along with my 1 3/4 headers. Once I get the intank fuel pump done I'll have a bunch of pics, sound and video clips so in a few weeks or so you'll be able to hear the difference if you or anyone else is interested.

Stock L98, 3:23s, manifolds and a race weight of 3688lbs. Nothing but bolt ons really: airfoil, MAT relocate, crank pulley only, alum DS, SLP 2k converter, shift kit and cooler, BFG drag radials, Catco cats and Flowmaster, MSD 6AL, 8.8 wires, K&N in gutted boxes and that's about it minus SFCs, LCAs and adj PHB. Not all are considered mods but it's what's different from stock. I dont put up any kind of MPH but I cut 1.76 as my best 60ft.

As soon as the exhaust is installed I'll have plenty of pics and video to share compared to the Flowmaster 2 chamber on there now.

Big AL...I wont be going for a bit I dont think. I went this past weekend and ran horrible times(14.3,14.1,14.1 on 1.9x 60fts). It was warmer than I normally run, the engine temps remained high and my 1/8th MPH was 4-5 MPH lower so something is up. I believe it's a broken up cat as it use to rattle and now doesnt. Thats going to be replaced in the next few weeks and then I'll make another run to see if that was in fact the problem. When I go Ill try to remember and let you know, thanks!

Couldn't you put one of the slp LM on our cars even if it had to get modified? Those things aren't even mufflers they are like resonators or something...? -89IRO
