Cat removal?

I have a question about cat removal. If anyone has removed their cat, Have you had any problems with low backpressure and you car running rough because of it? My cat was removed when I got it(no smog test in my county) and the car has started to run rough after I started working with it. the person who removed the cat didn't do it right and damaged the Y-pipe, so it broke right at the Y. Now it sounds like I got open headers. I like the sound, But the local yokel cops don't. I have been threatened with impoundment, But I want to figure out whether to put the cat back in or not before I drive it again.

Thanks for any help. Oh yeah, it's an 88 V8 TPI.

Ooooooooh. I know you didn't just say "problems with low backpressure."

You shouldn't feel like a dumbass, really. Until 2 weeks ago I thought that the upper horsepower limit on a 2-bolt main block was 400hp. A machinist and fellow board member explained to me that this was not the case and that 500hp was a more realistic number. I felt really stupid, but the guys didn't pour salt in the wound or anything like that.

If your car is running rough, it has to be something else. Plugs, plug wires, cap, rotor, timing, bad sensor, etc... but surely not the cat.

Harry
