350 TPI, which header?
I own a 1988 T/A with a 350 TPI. the exhaust system needs to be replaced and I'm also going to treat the car to headers as well.
From the Cat back, I have settled on the Hooker system #66-16823. I like the idle rumble and the scream at WOT.
On the Cat, I have a question. On my car is it a 3 inch pipe into and out of the cat?
On the headers is where I have a few questions. Besides Hooker and SLP, who makes smog legal headers for my 350 TPI.
Hedman makes a set called "shorty Camaro headers" that are supposed to be smog legal. Is there any reason that they will not fit my T/A.
Does anyone else make headers that will fit, and who has them, and what is the part number or header name.
Unless, I find a good price for coated headers, whatever I buy will be sent off to Jet Hot. However, a shop will put everything together.
Sometime in the future, I'm considering going to Vortec heads. Will whatever headers I buy still fit?
The car was purchased new and will be kept for a long, long time so I want quality.
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Like I told someone else, Hedman 1 5/8" Shorties with AIR tubes. Smog legal, and are the easiest to install that I've seen anyway, aside from SLP but SLP is spendy.
I had a y-pipe custom made that is bigger than stock. You might want to go with the Hedmans and get the Ypipe they make for it.
Your Cat is 2 7/8" out, and smaller in I believe. I would spend the $150ish and get a 3" cat.

Thanks for the input. After looking around
for awhile, I went with the Hooker 2055
On my 350 I may not have to cut the AC braket. But thats a big maybe.
I got a price from Jet-Hot. About $152.80
after a $38.20 discount for saying I heard about Jet-hot on this form. They even sent me a package containing the price estimate to ship with whe headers
and some other info including a video.:lala:
I will post a before jet-hot and after jet-hot photo and let you know how I
like them.
Also, I want to show them to my installer before they are coated to make sure were on the same page with no apparent installation problems.
They ran me about $360 from Jegs.
I'l keep you posted

The above photo is the headers back from jet hot. I'm taking everything to the shop in a few days. Headers, cat, and cat back:lala:
You never mentioned if the headers are going to fit with the vortec heads you plan on using later. Any idea? Also, what made you decide to go with the 2055's instead of the Hedman's? Thanks. - John'89L98

Both will work with Vortec heads.
I went with the Hooker for two reasons. I hear a lot of complaints about the Hedman Y pipe.
2nd: I live in the Wack state of California. Its not beyond the relm of possibility that they may, someday, require CARB numbers for headers. some strange stuff happens here.
I'm very happy with my exhaust system. Some of the best money I ever spent. More power, better throttle response, and great sound.:lala:

Yes, it was the 2055's
I had mechanic put them on for me. He has taken care of the car for the last 12 years. The Cat and cat-back were done at the same time. welding was aslo required on the cat-back.
Per him: The drivers side dropped in fairly easy. The passanger side required the removal of a lot of stuff to get at it and to get it out. it took some time to get the AC rear bar to fit properly. further, the dip stick had to be moved a bit.
The complete job took about 8 hours

Through Jeggs they were about $ 359 with Y pipe, gaskets, and mounting hardware.
You can also get them from Jet-hot with coating for about $600.
Someone said they didn't include mounting hardware and gaskets. I would check if you go that way.
