Are the flowmaster 80 series mufflers the same size internally?

Fits in the stock location..They list two part numbers a 42583 this has a 2.5" inlet with two 2.5" outlets. And a 43083 that has a 3" inlet with two 2.5" outlets. The case size is the same for each.

I want the 3" but..I might buy a used one for cheap that has the 2.5" inlet. What IM wondering is.. if they are the same size internally? I dont want to choke my exhaust if its retrictive. I have a 3" dynomax system now with the two on the left pipes. I want to install a set of 4thgen tips. Thats why IM changing the muffler.

I could open the end of the muffler to 3" and just weld my 3" pipe to the muffler. This would be easy.

But..what im wondering are the openings inside the chambers the same for the 3" and the 2.5" inlet. And they just changed the inlet to fit the application.

Cant be that simple right?

Well I just got off the phone with Flowmaster. They tech guy said that they are indeed the same internally. The holes between the chambers are the same size. Same muffler...Just a different size inlet.

They way the muffler is designed it would be easy to open the inlet to fit my 3" pipe.

Just wanted to let anyone who might be interested know.

Thanks Deepstage69 for the reply.

Mike

so if you were going to use the stock I-pipe( as in my case), I would want to get the 2 1/2 inch inlet instead correct?

Thanks.
