Keep the Warlocks, or no?
On the '57. When I run in a mufflers-required class, they cost me .2's over uncapped.
I picked up some Dynomax 3" bullets, was planning on welding on some collector adapters (the Warlock cap is a standard-flange, 3", 3-bolt collector), putting them on in place of the caps when mufflers are required. But, looking at it all, I got to thinking I might as well pull the Warlocks and put the bullets in their place.
It would probably be louder - I'd still run them thorugh the tailpipes - but I wouldn't have to hassle with uncorking for open-allowed classes, or replacing caps w/bullets for muffler-required classes.
What do y'all think?

hmmm...interesting. i would say go to just the bullets if you race in a muffled class alot. perhaps weld in some cut outs before the bullets to use when you run in a unmuffled class...then you can also compare the flow between the bullets and the open exhaust...

The bullets will keep it surprisingly quiet at idle, I say if your going with the bullets ditch the warlocks, Just extra weight

The Warlocks are heavy, that's for sure.
The next mufflers-required race is Friday, I doubt I'll have time to get them in by then, especially if I go to test & tune Wednesday.
I have plenty of data on how it runs with open exhaust. If I find the bullets-thru-the-tailpipes hurts more than I'd like, I could add cut-outs later. But, if that's the case, I'd be better off keeping the Warlocks and just putting the bullets on when needed (<1/3 of the races in a season).
Guess I'll weld the flanges on real quick this week, and see how it does with them in place of the caps.

Hooked the Bullets up to the Warlock cap flange last night. A few unexpected results:
1) It's quieter than I expected, since we're talking no baffles/corners from header collectors to bullet outlets. Distance from collector flange to outlet is about 4'. Certainly a LOT quieter than simply uncapped.
2) There is still flow out the tailpipes, which is through the "muffled" path of the Warlocks. Given that, I'm reluctant to put the bullets in by themselves through the tailpipes. I'll have to think about that one.
3) One "I should have thought about that" - the wingnuts used for the caps don't work with the mufflers (wings hit the pipe). So, wrench is required for removal/installation of the bullets.
Hope to go to test & tune at Bandimere tonight to see how it runs.

Bullets in live-fire exercise:
See this thread for the results from test & tune tonight:

Granted, that was primarily a carb-change test, but I think it shows clearly that the Bullets don't hurt me (remember, the Warlocks capped cost me 2 tenths, but that was with the VS carb). I didn't try w/o the Bullets or capped tonight due to time constraints.
Oh, SLOWFIVEOH, you were quite right about the sound level at idle. Cruising down the street or highway, or at WOT, they are LOUD! (but still not close to as loud as the Warlocks uncapped).
Of course, that is without tailpipes. Now, I've got to decide whether to replace the Warlocks with the Bullets. They would be a lot quieter hooked into the entire system.
