My 85 standard has holes in the over the axle portion of the exhaust pipe. I've used some patching "paste" and it worked for awhile. What would be the least expensive permentent way to fix this. I was thinking about cutting the bad section out and either welding a new section on or using some type of flex pipe and bolting it on. I'm still on the fence about whether I want to restore the car or just keep it on the road.

 

Just replace the exhaust system. Shoemaker repairs just don't cut it.
