You get what you pay for. trust me. I went the cheap route on flowtechs and they uterly suck. They came with warped flanges and the y-pipe never really lined up right. So when you pay 400-600 big ones you are getting something that is built right. There is a reason why they cost so much. they don't skimp on manufacturing them.
Get edelbrocks Tes headers w/pipe, they kick *** and i had no problems whatsoever installing them, get the nickleplated chrome, they look good too and dont rust!! Get some dead soft aluminum gaskets with that as well unless you like replacing head gaskets. Just my 02.

- That your car has not been twisted, (years of hard cornering can shift the unibody up to .5") Previous accidents can do the same thing. They assume perfect geometry.
- You don't have sagging motor/tranny mounts.
- You are somewhat mechaically inclined to get them in without denting and can remove the necessary parts out of the way to get them in.
Many people avoid denting the headers by carefuly examining why they won't fit. Weather that requires new motor mounts or relocation the steering colum a bit, it can be done.

The edelbrocks suck, dont buy them, I dont care what mr. entheused boy says.
dope: I'm sure you're referring to SLP's, some have em and they fit perfect, some there are slight issues, they're still the highest quality set IMO.
The hooker shorties seem to be nice, thats the way i'd go if i had to have A.I.R. tubes.

I've heard that Edelbrock is the best bang for the buck, assuming that you're gonna go with the money saving route. Again, it's just what I've heard.
As for the SLP headers, I've never heard anyone have problems who dismissed all the typical issues. Most people have problems with the primary hitting the steering column because the motor mount is sagging. I don't recall ANYONE putting in new mounts and STILL having trouble. (although I'm sure someone out there has...you get the point.)

I've worked on two cars with the Edelcraps, they are a very very very very very poor design, the primaries squished to get into the collector, its smash together Y pipe, the collector flanges being in VERY bad spots for installation. for the $35 please get the Hookers, i'd rather run stock manifolds than edelcraps, heck I could have had a set of edels free just needed a Y pipe, guess whats on my car till I'm ready to order another set of SLP's, yup you guessed it, stock manifolds, keep the edeljunk away from me.

hehehe....well.....I'm personally goin' with the SLP's.
I didn't realize that the prices for the hookers was that low. I'd get the Hookers before the Edels anyday.

The edelbrocks are crap huh?????
Would you call going from 14.3 at 99.5mph to 13.89 at 103.9 mph crappy???
My mods - when running 14.3
L98
ported plenum
slp runners
K&N filters
Mods when running 13.8
Above mods plus:
Edelbrock TES with y pipe. (NICKELPLATED CHROME)#6872
Dead soft aluminum Gaskets
Gutted Cat, removed all emissions crap
Custom 3 inch pipe all the way back to a flowmaster crossflow
thats it!!! Id say my times are DAMN good for the mods ive done.
The edelbrocks were deffinitly worth the cash and would put them up against any other header around including slp.
I will be reusing them on my 383 and have decided not to go with the hedmans in my sig---for sale.
then once im running low 12's wiith em i guess theyll still be crappy huh??

I have to take issue with the comments that they are poorly designed.
While I agree the routing of the primaries is not ideal, this is done with ease of installation and access to spark plugs in mind. These 2 considerations are equally important if not moreso on steet cars as is the performance of the headers.
Also the flange design is far better than the hookers. I have read people measured the opening on the hookers and it drops to below 2"...some collector design! The TES headers are 2.5"( I measured mine).
As for the YPipe, yes the TESs' Ypipe is not the best out there...if ultimate performance is an issue then just get a custom Ypipe made...I did and I am very happy with my exhaust system from Headers to tailpipes.
They are well constructed...nice thick head flanges...solid design IMO
