Tailpipes stock setup question...

My car was fitted with some The Fast and The Furious mufflers by the previous owner. These are supported by non-stock supports as shown on the picture.

The only picture of a near stock exhaust I was able to find was this:

It doesn't appear to have any supports like my setup... Is this right????

I REALLY want to get rid of my HUGE trashcan style exhaust, makes the car look tacky... Please help.

EDIT: Another other question is that the previous owner cut off the stock pipes and then used a brace to connect the TF&TF mufflers... Do I need to get the pipes welded back on or can I use the braces? They do look pretty strong.
