Pickup exhaust

Ive got a 1991 chevy regular cab short box pickup with the 350 in it. I have hooker tri-y headers on it, true dual 2 1/2 exhaust and glasspacks on it, and it hardly has any sound to it at all. The only way i get nice sound is when i open the cutouts which is a pain in the @ss. Any ideas on what i am doing wrong and not getting any sound at all? My friends chevy pickup with factory manifolds and true duals is WAYYY louder than this. Any ideas as to getting more sound out of my truck?

Glasspacks are where you went wrong. Many people think all glasspacks are loud, this is not true. Get rid of the glasspacks and get some good mufflers. There is a flowmaster clone out there that can be had for $45 or so and summit has their fully welded mufflers on sale right now for $32 each. They are loud. Also, if you do not already have some large tips on it (3.5") or so, try that, it basically gives it a megaphone effect.

Before my 90 got ripped off, I had removed the muffler all together and just had my cat dump into a 3.5" pipe then split into two 2.5" and exit out right below the rear corner of the box on each side. It has 18" long 3" tips on it and it sounded good. It wasn't too loud, but it was definetly not quiet, and since mine was a 5sp, I really had fun with it. G o d I miss that truck , Oh well, my 5.3l 2000 will soon sound just as good.

you gotta get small glass packs, not the long ones. also, if you put them on backwards, they will be louder (or you can flush them)

Yeah, ive got pretty small round tips on there. I think there still 2.5", and they're pretty short. thanks for the replies. I'll take a look at those mufflers from summit tonight.
