flowtech y-pipe restriction
i have flowtech headers and i need a better y-pipe. i'm thinking about getting the flowthech y since i have the headers already and i don't want to get a whole new set of headers. i know its about the same as stock and i've seen pitures of it but its a lot better than mine and it would be no better getting one custom made. i'l be putting in a 350 with about 300-350hp. how much hp do you think it would rob compared to a 3" pipe all the way?

It would be better to get a custom made one. 2 2.5 pipes into one 2.5 pipe isn't good. Custom 2.5's into a 3 inch pipe, then 3inch I-pipe and a good muffler will be much better.

i tried that, its pretty much out of the question. i've talked to just about every shop around here and even one 2.5" is hard to get them to do. and it would cost $150+ for something that isn't even as good as stock.
if i had a welder i'd get some 3" bends and make my own because theres plenty of room if you do it right.

The Flowtech Y pipe is terrible. The only advantage it has over the stock piece of the mandrel bends. Get a custom 2.5" Y pipe formed in the same routing as good aftermarket Y pipes, like Edelbrock's or Hooker's.

where do you guys get this stuff custom made? i only found like one place that would do 2.5" just like stock. all the rest wont do it or will only do 2"
some of us do it ourselves, some have welders some have friends or know somebody who can/will help them out. the best thing i can suggest is make a template using pipe from Autozone(you could get pvc or abs pipe to use as a guide) and map out the turns and such and then either buy pipe bent to that shape or have the pipe you used to create a guide and have it welded together as much as possible and maybe have clamps for the rest of it. or using you stock ypipe as a guide have a shop bend you a piece of pipe then take it back and trial fit it(hopefully this isnt you only set of wheels) then when you have everything the way you want it have that welder tack everything and weld it. I plan on doing mine this way, but since i have access to the equiptment it shouldnt be hard, just the trips to the parts store will be enough its a 1hr road trip.
