Hooker 2055's
.....ok I did the search, read the important threads up top, etc....but just for my clarification, i wanted to make sure becasue its still blurry to me....the Hooker 2055's Y-pipe....is that pipe 3" from where it connects to the headers, all the way to the cat, or does it just flange open to 3" for the cat itself and the rest is 2 1/2"? In other words, is it a true 3" y-pipe like the flowmaster american thunder 3" intermediate pipe? I'm thinking about getting these headers and I wanted to make sure. Thanks.

Maybe I'm not with the "hip computing croud yet" but what does "ttt" mean, I keep seeing it? lol. From what I've read, the hooker y pipe is 3" throughout.

Thats why i posted....i'm hoping someone who has that system(which many do) will see their choice of headers in a thread and come in here and answer this simple question

Patience, my son...
I didn't see this thread yesterday, sorry to make you wait so long. The answer is the down-pipes that connect to the header collectors are 2-1/2". When they come together to form the "Y", the pipe is 3" from then on to the cat.

I just wanted to be clear about the "entire length of the y-pipe" part.
Since the entire welded assembly from the collector connection to the cat connection is commonly called the "y-pipe", in that sense the "entire length" is not 3". But, if you want to know if the pipe after they join at the "Y" is "entirely 3-inch", then, unlike Hedman, the answer is "Yes".

Thanks for the replys guys.....so let me get this straight....where it meets the header, its 2 1/2".....each tube of the Y is 2 1/2" till it forms a single pipe(where the two pipes of the Y meet), and from THERE its, 3".....do i ahve that right? But still, out of any Y pipe, this is the best flowing one...also correct?

Correct.
Although I haven't seen any quantified flow data. The design and workmanship is 1st class, though.
However, last summer a couple of guys noted that theirs hung down a little too low. I tried to find out if they resolved their problem, but haven't heard back from them. I picked my set up back in early 2001, it almost sounds like Hooker's CNC bending machine got stupid. I know the guys (and Jet Hot) contacted Hooker about it, don't know if the issue has been resolved.

Here is mine, still awaiting to be put on, as well as me to figure out how I'm going to do my exhaust (I currently have the dual cat setup)
Yellow= 2 1/2"
Red = 3"
Blue = anyones best guess.

I have them and the blue is 3 inch as well. The whole thing as said before is top notch. It is a true Y unlike the hedman's or other y pipes. It has 2 2.5 inch pipes that join together at a Y inch 1 single 3 inch pipe. Nothing necks down if that is what you are asking.

But this answers all my questions. Now, if nothing else goes wrong with the car, I can go and get a set of these. Jegs has the 2055's for $349....comes with the y-pipe. A&A wants $650

....but i dont know if thats coated or not coated, and neither do the guys down there....but they will price match it....so if i can get these for $349 coated, then f**kin WOOHOO!!!
Thanks for all the help guys, i appreciate all the info...this really clears up all my questions. Senior Member

You're going to want to spend the extra money to have them coated. The ones you are talking about are un-coated. Jet-Hot quoted me $570 for coated 2055s. Somebody said on here that if you mention thirdgen.org, they will give you a nice discount too.

I've been reading these treads for a while now and have decided that the 2055's seem to be the choice of most. My question is I have an 82 Z with a pre 85 350 ( it has headers now but they are long and I have trouble with the 5 sp swap I just did because of the clutch slave position. Had to beat the headers down a little just to make them fit. Do not have a cat - titled as classic - no need.) will the 2055's fit ??? I have seen them listed for 84 and latter. Trying to make sure they will work before I get them. Thanks

They will fit your engine and your car. They just won't fit (without modification) the exhaust that was originally in your car.
I imagine you don't have A.I.R., so the fact that the driver's side A.I.R. fitting faces to the rear probably won't bother you too much.

Thanks, but what mods do I need to make??? As for the exhaust, it now hangs low under the frame and goes back to a Y into a 3" pipe on the passenger side about half way back and that goes into muffler with dual exhaust pipes. Thanks again
