I'm Getting Told I Can't Run True Dual Exhust On A Third Gen??

OK WHAT IS THE DEAL HERE ONE GUY SAY YES YOU RUN 2.5" TRUE DAUL'S ON A THIRD GEN...

THEN OTHER GUY'S SAY YOU CAT RUN TEU DAULS AT ALL.
SOME HAVE TOLD ME IF YOU GO WITH 2-1/4" PIPE AND RUN GLASS PACK'S YOU CAN...

I WANTED TO RUN TRUE DUAL'S AND 3'PIPE WITH PURPLE HORNIE'S.

WILL IT FIT UNDER A 91GTA WITH A 406SBC. CAT DOSE SIT 1-1/4" HIGHER THEN MOST THIRD GEN'S.
MAYBE MY 295/50r16'S ARE THE CAUSE OF THAT.

2-1/4" WOULD FINE TOO IF THATS WHAT I HAVE TO DO BUT IF I CAN FIT 3' TRUE DUAL'S THEM I WANT TO GO THAT ROUTE.....

I have NO EMISSIONS TO MEET.

You can run a true dual exhaust on a 3rd gen, plenty of guys have already done so. You'll sacrifice ground clearance and it will definately be a custom job. There is a sticky you need to read, search around for it, it has several pictures of what others have done.

I did see the, pic's they only have like 3 inches of clearence with 3" exhaust......

so i would be better off with eh 2-1/4" and some glass pack's to keep it small..........

Cherry bomb GLASS PACK's........:hail: :hail:

A nice 2 1/2 dual system with an X pipe and Dynomax Bullet mufflers would be a nice setup. Glasspacks don't flow that well, and in my personal opinion...sound like an old dumptruck. A dual 3" system is just wayy too big for a 406ci small block.

The Sover bulley's i would do but there syill got the glass pack sound.....

I Like the sound of Glass:

1.cherry bombs.

2.Purple hornies.

3. silver bullets.

4.straight pipes.

5.side pipes.

6.stacks.

7.Glass packs.

8.92-98 silverado's the CBerls got sound cool.

I don't like the sound of the 1980+ F-body exhaust period this single pipe dual tip crap is Junk......

By thw Way the 406 has 1343Cfm on top of it.
2-670cfm TB's with injector spacer's.

I would run two 2 1/2" bullet mufflers, they are basically the size of the pipe. The rest of how you want to do it is up to you really, just keep in mind if you go straight down the center of the car it will be low as hell, that is how mine is.

2.5 inch duals would give very similiar clearance to the 2.25 inch. and a 2.5 inch pipe flows something like 500+ cfm where as a 2.25 inch pipe flows around 375 cfm. The 2.25 inch pipes would probably cause minor losses in HP while the 2.5 inch would probably not cause any loss.

If the bullets are to loud, the newer Thruch Glass Packs made by dynomax also, have a very similiar design except they are longer which provides a little more sound reduction. But they are perforated instead of louvered pipe. Try not to get the louvered style glass pack if flow is a concern.

so a 2.5" true dual's will fit under a third gen then??
just run them off the manifolds/Headers and out the back simple??

cause this single pipe dual tip thing is kinda retarded and they don't sound good to me..........

yeah some pics would be cool......

This is not mine, but this is how mine is routed with a cut hedman Y-pipe. The hedmans Y-pipe is 2.25. And I believe this one is 2.5.

http://home.earthlink.net/~chris255/thirdgen1.jpg

exept mine dumps right before the axle. And I am using 25 inch Thrush glass packs which fit almost as good as the pipe does underneath.

And the dumps create the only ground clearance issues, I may be turning mine sideways instead of straight down.

The ones I run are Thrush Magnum glasspack. Mine are 2.25 inch

At http://store.summitracing.com/ they are part # WLK-24201 and there are several 2.5 inch ones in different lengths.

just go under exhaust and the dynomax sections. The Thrush ones are the most inexpensive. But there are also bullets and morroso makes a spiral chamber tube muffler.

Just don't go with a straight through tube muffler with LOUVERS. The Thrush mangnums and Dynomax Bullets are perforated instead of louvered. I'd bet there are other manufactuers making high flow tube mufflers those are just the ones I'm familiar with.

And the Thrush ones are the skinniest I've seen so they fit good. And compared to the bullet are actually quieter. I think that is due to their length.

In my opinion the dynomax bullet mufflers have a much better sound than traditional glasspacks. I have 2 1/2" duals off of 1 5/8" hedman headers into an X pipe and into 2 1/2" bullet mufflers, and my exhaust is a million times quieter than the majority of my friends's cars.

X and H pipes make horsepower. If you want loud build a motor that is making power.
