Uhhh... I know that they say the 80's are louder, but I've yet to see that in practice. I have 40's on mine, and they are pretty close to the loudest exhaust on a non-"race" car that I've ever heard. In fact, I'm getting rid of them because they are not to my taste anymore. They do have a nice tone, though.

I am a big fan of FLOWMASTER. In my opion the 40 series sounds great. Thing is that there are two types of 40 series. The 2-chamber and the 3-chamber. If you walk into muffler master or any place like that and ask for FLOWMASTERS. They'll probably put a 40-series 3-chamber on your car. The best sound will come from the 2-chamber. The best idea would be to ask them for the 2-chamber or order it from SUMMIT or JEGS. I guarantee if you get a 3-chamber you will be disappointed with it. Stay away from DELTA FLOW and FORCE2.
P.S. To get the full FLOWMASTER affect you cant have catalytic convs. And I haven't really made a choice on the 80 series.
www.flowmastermufflers.com might be some help.

depends on rpm's anything under like 2K it's pretty tame i think. but at 2K-2500 there is a noticable interior resonance everyone claims.

I hear a nice distinct tone at around 2000-2500 rpm with my 80 series muffler
