Routing plug wires so they don't melt

Y'all,

I have a daunting task ahead of me. Some of my plug wires are melted to the headers. The headers are much bigger than the stock exhaust manifolds. (duh)

How have some of you been able to route your plug wires around your headers? It's pretty tight in there, but I'm almost positive that it will fix my rough running problem.

How would I tell if my hi-flow cat is clogged or worn out? The exhaust flows freely, and the gasses are clear, but they smell awful.

other info:

91 Formula 305 TBI.
No trouble codes other than 12 in the computer. The car idles well, but has no power. The oil pressure gauge is steady ,as well as the tachometer. It doesn't stall, but acts like it's gonna under heavy load or going uphill.

Thank you for any suggestions or solutions.

-Jason!

Is "made for you" the brand name? Did you have to buy longer plug wires, or do they resist so much heat that it doesn't matter if they touch?

Thanks!

yep thats the name brand . you can find them in summit , jegs , to name a couple places . They mount either on the top of the centerbolt valve covers or on the sides . I have the ones that mount on top of the valve covers , they make it so my wires clear the headers with no problems !

Thank you fellas. I found a speed shop near me that is a distributor for Made for You prdoucts.
I was thinking that wire looms are extra insulation that wrap around the wire. I guess that nothing should be touching the headers, huh?

Deadbird, I also like your idea and may try it as well, or a combination of the two.

The headers in my car are rusted edelbrock long-tube (or something) headers that are just too big. They are intact and sound nice, but it's probably time to replace them. They were on the car when I bought it and hang down too low, anyway.

Thanks again!

I don't like seeing wires either...especially with tall aluminum flamed VC's. I didn't buy them to be covered up. I had some of those Made For You looms and when I went to route the wires on my new motor, I realized that there were two 1/4-20 thread bosses on each side of the block just below the heads that I fastened the looms to. Now they are run right behind the heads and held nice and tight against the block and off the headers.

I have a friend who is willing to help me this weekend. My headers don;t lok like any of your pictures. There is a seperate bar, or something, running parallel to the valve cover and welded to the top of each tube. It looks like a smaller hollow tube that serves no purpose. Both sides are like this.

Oh well.

Hey EvilCartman, your rotor cap is a nice shade of Titans blue. Nothing wrong with that!

those are AIR tubes, they are for emissions purposes. you can cut those off and weld up the holes.

Good! I may just do that.

What does AIR stand for, anyway? Air?

Well, I got it done. I had to use both wire looms and wire ties, plus I put heat sheilds that can supposedly withstand 1200* on the new wires. They look similar to a new product called the "Ove Glove"

It was a pain in the buttocks, but she runs smooth and is more responsive than she has ever been.

Thank you guys for the info and pics.
