What wires do you use with SLP headers?

Just wondering what plug wires people are using with SLP headers? I'm currently using the Taylors but a couple of them are too close to the headers.

Also, how do people route theire? Pics would be nice.

Thanks

Robert

I'm using Accel 300+ wires with MSD boot insulating sleeves. The MSD superconductors burnt up, even with the sleeves, but the Accels are going strong after two seasons now(not pimping Accel, lol). Make sure you use insulating sleeves with whatever wires you run, because the boots will blister, peel, or crack from the heat, over time.

With or without AIR tubes? Makes a big difference, as the tubes can get in the way.

I have the tubes cut off and I'm running ACDelco wires desgined for a late 70s 350 truck, over the valve cover style, all 90* boots. They fit perfectly with just cheap plastic 2, 3, and 4 wires looms available pretty much anywhere. Just use the 2 wire looms between the primaries and route them along the valvecovers, just like nearly every other SBC...

I use the metal heat shields from the LT1 on my 90 deg plug boots with my 1 3/4 SLP headers. Since I installed them I have not had any burnt plug boots. Available from the GM dealer for about $1.90 each. A good investment.

I used MSD 8.5mm with all 90* boots. Mostly i just have the front driver side 2 come up and together and then back.. then the two behind it come together and up as well and then all four connect together and head to the distributer.. on the passenger side.. i had the front two the same, but the back to i routed under behind the header and up.

Ive got MSD 8.5 wires...got the MFY wires looms for center bolts. I seem kinda close but I have driven the car yet....I may get some boot covers for them before I do drive it...dont wanna melt my new wires. Im really just worried about 1 wire on each side...you can see which one Im talking about.

I have 1-3/4" coated SLPs with AIR and wires that I bought from NAPA. Can't remember the brand name, but they were under $25. I'm using homemade looms for now, and I've had no problems so far in one season.

depending on how tacky it might end up looking.. i would just run the close wire to the back loom only so its not so close.

Yeah I never thought about that...I may try it and see how it looks.....its the same wire on bothsides......just the way the wire loom is cant really get it to bend right and you really dont want to bend it that sharp anyways...I'll try and see...thx for the idea..

Remember different spark plugs have different lengths. I'm using AC R43TS plugs and Moroso Blue Max wires. The d/side are routed like the factory under, the p/side are run over the valve covers using MFY looms.

My experience with plug wires and headers is it not the wires but the boots. They make contact with the headers and get burnt and short. So talk about running wire looms and how they look and you forget what the problems are.

I have the taylor wires at the moment and although I like them, it is the boots that are close in places.

I have these summit p# DEI-010504 boot covers, but they dont fit over the taylor right angle boots. Anyone running these and if so with what wires? Sorry I didn't put up a pic, I have to resize it and my computer is having enough trouble running explorer at the moment.

Thanks again

I'm leaning towards the Accel 300+ wires. I can't find anywhere if they arespiral core or not, which I need for my ignition. My headers have the AIR tubes, and I can't decide if they would be better run under the headers or from above along the valve covers.

Thanks again

Robert

I'm using MSD wires (90deg boots) and MFY wire looms, like Wishmaster pictured. With the SLP 1-3/4" headers, the boots come quite close to the tubes (maybe 1/8"), but have shown no signs of any heat damage.
