Hooker 2055 collector outlet diameter <2"?

What's up with the hooker collector outlet diameter being less than 2 inches? I measured it to be 1.9" or so. Is it meant to be cut open more? Is it designed to make more power or something the way it is? Will it cause sealing problems if it is opened up more?
Thanks,
Jeremy

I was wondering the same thing myself. I just thought that it helped direct the exhaust gases more directly.

You have discovered the only downside to the 2055's. Just open it up to the ID of the y pipe andyou won't have problems. I took a belt sander with 50 grit paper to it to get a perfectly round opening. Hooker claims it's for "sealing purposes."

but if you open it up won't it really mess up the seal since it is a ball seal?

What 25th said is exactly what Hooker responded to me when I asked about that 2-bit sized hole.

I did a fit check, marking the location of the y-pipe down-pipes on the ball flange. Then, with the y-pipe away, I used a high-speed angle grinder to open up the flange to 2-1/8" (the ID of the down-pipes), centered where the down-pipes mated.

No seal problems with that approach.

That's pretty much how I planned on doing it unless someone said that it is a no-no. Thanks for the replies. - Glad I got a lift, though! I'll also be installing a new 2032 cam, Edelbrock centerbolt heads, and Edelbrock base and runners, so hopefully the installation will go quickly.
