Something Isn't Right Here (AIR related)

I am in the process of removing AIR from my car. I have removed everything and put a new belt on. My problem is that I bought a 1/4" flare plug to plug the AIR tube holes in the exhaust manifold but it is too small, it won't even thread. I also bought the next biggest size, 3/8" flare plug but it is too big. Any suggestions?

Try an 8MM.

1/4" = 6.3MM
3/8" = 9.5MM
