SLP 1 3/4" Dyno #'s Anyone?

I was looking at buying a set of SLP headers but was wondering if anyone has dyno'd any proven gains from them.

I have heard many mixed reviews about them.
Buy the Hookers they are cheaper, SLP's are the best thing I ever did, SLP has to small of a Y-pipe, SLP's gained me 4 tenths. ect ect ect.

So does anyone have any dyno gains to share? I would like to see some hard core proven gains on them.

If not stay tuned and I will probably be throwing up a dyno pass with them on a stock .030 L98.

I don't know about gains but TRAXION ran like low 12's or 11's on SLP 1 3/4" shorties. One of the finest tuned L98 factory short block times I have ever seen. No doubt they hurt performance but damn, that is good. See his post at the top of the exhaust board referencing full length headers for details.

Thats cool, The hooker LT's just seem like more of a headache than I have available down time with the car.

What is the average gain in ET with just swapping the headers on a stock cam, stock heads and intake motor??

15-20HP on a stock vehicle is about average.

Well if your comparing slp's price to the others cheaper price before you do that you should consider the materials that are being used... slp uses a stainless aloy and i would almost bet the other guy is using a carbon steel aloy that will eventually have a hole blown through them...slp's will last for ever..

Already took that well into consideration. I love the gains of Hookers and they have become a brand I trust the fit and finish of. But they don't last for anything. The collectors have rusted off of every set I have ever owned.

I think Trax was using the 1 5/8" SLP headers.

No, they were in fact the 1 3/4" primaries. Check his site.

My bad, I could have sworn he was using the 1 5/8" SLPs. Every time I check his site i'm impressed by his 60' times. I'd kill for a 1.6.

Traxion was using the 1 5/8" slp shorties before switching. He even referred to that fact in one of his posts saying that some of the gain going to longtubes over the shorties was realized by the larger 1 3/4" primaries on the longtubes.

Slps

About five years ago I purchased Slp's headers 1 3/4 inchshorties(got them ceramic coated) and a set of edelbrock performer 2.02 heads and bolted them to a stock L98 short block. I went from stock 14.69 to 13.30 1/4 mile times. If squeasing every bit of horse power out of your exausht is a major issue I would go with true duals or get a dump gate for the track.
Oh and another thing I was going to say was that the headers I purchased have a very slight haze of light rust wich seems like it might be the coating the headers seem to be in excellent shape over all.

Dyno

It was with a gutted tpi throttle body that I dremel'd(opened up and massaged) my self I dont know if you would consider that stock?? I guess so. Screens removed from MAF sensor & aluminum fins cut out also and a stage 3 hyper tech chip (wich I now will sale for cheap) with 160 thermostat and 160 fan switch.
The cat bac system I had then was the mandrel bent flow master thunder series muffler single 3 inch in and 3 inch out..
If you want a really nice sounding single cat bac muffler go with a mufflex 4" dayyyyume they sound so good..give your 350 a real ballsy sound. ohhh and I also had a K&N air filter.

13.3 is a pretty good number for the setup you have. I have about the same setup minus the heads and am running a 14.6.

I was thinking about hogging out the intake and running a set of ported aluminum 202 vette heads and see what that will net me.

I ordered the headers 2 weeks ago from Hawks Third Gen and have yet to see them. I was planning on installing them this weekend and going to Gateway for tuesday night T&T but I guess that blows my plans. Now I will have to wait till next weekend to do the install.

I'm spoiled on Summit and Jegs next day.

Yes it was with the stock base and plenum.
But I did open up the base to match the gasket areas and I did the same with the runners(just made the runners smoother at the opening) and the plenum. The plenum has a ton of metal that needs to be removed and then smoothed out I spent a good 3 or 4 solid hours grinding on the plenum alone, especially removing the huge speed bump located right behind the throttle body blades.
My 350 at the time did get better gas mileage and power through out with the 2.02 heads wich I would highly recomend.. If you have the heads off I would also unshroud the valves if you do your throttle response will be super crisp and gain you some horses as well..

The exhaust tip

All I think when I see that is r1ce, r1ce, r1ce, regardless of what kind of sound is coming out of it. IMO the turndown looks better.

Yeah I thought the same thing when I first looked at it. Hmmm sure does have a ricy look but one things for sure it definately doesnt have the 1st gear beeeeeeeeeeeeep 2nd gear beeeeeeeeeep 3rd gear shift beeeeeeeeeep ricy sound.
Just the mufflex factory cut with turn down seemed a little too plain jane for me. So I just ordered that one from jegs and migged it on I had a hard enough time trying to find any one who even makes a 4 inch tip.
Besides i find it to my benefit for someone to think it might be ***** related.

Finally, someone proves that a cut out makes power about 8-9 HPin this instance. That "I don't have enough back pressure" cr@p gets old. Especially when they mean (my exhaust velocity has suffered) not backpressure. Our exhaust routing is so restrictive d@mn near anything will help.

Oh, and try to keep the "a dyno can be manipulated and tweaked and fooled with and " to a minimum. I chose to take the graphs at face value. So let the flames begin..........

Well Ok I guess Im guilty of watching "2 Fast 2 Furiouse" a few too many times.lol But lets be a little realistic here. What kind of exhaust does look good behind a 3rd gen ??(none)? 2 normal sized tips coming out each side of a muffler on the back?? When the fact being there not even true duals . I do agree it doesnt look the greatest but the sound of a built motor with a 4 "mufflex compensates for a lot.

STILL Waiting for my headers to get here. Hawks is just awsome! What a way to gain customers.

If you want SLP's in under a months time I wouldn't recomend them.

I am still waiting for my headers but I bought my SLP headers from Summit.
Saved me about $60.00 over buying them from SLP. Almost $40 on price plus shipping was free instead of $40. Even though SLP has a good warrenty Summit is easier for me to deal with if I have problems.
The long delays are from SLP. Just my .02 but I think they are more focused on and sell more of the new LS1 products so they get production priority. On a good note the headers are being drop shipped to me direct form SLP (when they are ever done)

A little slacking on posting up the gains.
Installed the SLP 1 3/4" uncoated with no emissions. Removed the cats and replaced with a couple 3" mandrel 90's from summit and removed the A.I.R. with the belt reroute.

Ran a best ET of 14.47@95 up from 14.8's at around 92mph. Made a nice difference. Looking to improve even further with some Hoosier daddy's. Spinning like crazy and having to roll into the pedal on the 60' but that run was still a 1.9 on street tires and stock suspension and a hot motor.
