true duals or single 3" on a 305

i recently bought some headers and a matching hi flow y-pipe. I'm in the process of sanding and painting them, and I was gonna just use a nice 3" catback system. However a friend recently offered me his true dual setup off his GTA for cheap. It's 3" piping from the headers straight back to flowmaster 40's. My question is, would the true duals be worth it on a fairly stock 305? I heard they can actually hurt it because you have to get high performance cam/heads, etc to keep up with it. Would the flowmaster single 3" catback be better? help!

Duals would be better IMO, but they usually have serious ground clearance issues on these cars. The 3" single would be just as good, since its a more-or-less stock 305, and have no ground clearance problems either.

you also may lose some low end torque... but if you can get it for cheap then go for it...

3" single exhaust will be more than enough for just about any 305... Yeah duals may be "cool" but its just a waste.

Stick with the single 3". Duals are cool on many levels but unless you are making monster power and do not need any ground clearance a single 3" will suffice.

Single 3" will give you more low and midrange torque than duals. I have true duals that I ended up Y-ing back togather put into a 3" cat and then back apart after 2'. Gave me 15 ft/lbs of torque at the rear wheels on a 305 over true 2.25" duals.
