ALright guys time to change headers!
I have some hedman LT headers with 2" duals with dynomax mufflers and some very BAD ground clearances and frankly I am tired of it....Alright here are some headers I have in mind. Hooker 2055's with y pipe or SLP Shortie headers with y pipe both headers with have to have 1 3/4" primaries so they can support my setup see sig. Which ever header I use it will go from y pipe to 3" pipe to a 3" hooker aerochamber cat back.

SLP is the only outfit that makes 1-3/4" primary shorties for 3rd gens.

I don't know directly about the SLP y-pipe, but I understand it has 2-1/2" down-pipes but isn't a full 3" where they come together.
The 2055 y-pipe is a piece of art. If you were willing to port match the flanges, the 1-5/8" primaries would probably support your power levels.

The slp Y-Pipe sucks. Have a exhaust shop make you a real one. Its a 2 1/2" downpipe and comes together to a single 3" (Yes, its a real 3"
).

Welcome to the problem exhaust club..
My exhaust is hobbling my setup now and can't decide whether to go with slp or hooker, I just hope either is better than the edelbrock..
from my new numbers anything over 350 rwhp and you will start to have serious breathing trouble..
Pasky, what did you do with yours again?? did you feel a difference with you modification? Are you power levels similar to what I am running?

No, im putting down about 295 rwhp. I just have headers, a tune and some 1.6 RR's. I plan to do a cam swap as you well know. I had a exhaust shop make me a Y-pipe exactly like SLP's except all 3". I don't run a Cat. So I have 3" piping allll the way back into a hooker aeroflow into a turn down. Wonderbar, spohn torque arm, LCA relocation brackets. I also have a T-56 and LS1 aluminum driveshaft. Thats all i've done so far.
Next year I plan to tear it apart, stroke it to 383 and get some LE heads and drop that monster GM847 cam in.

Sounds like a good plan..
I dynoed 289 with bolt ons.. so somewhere above 300 is where shorties start being a restriction.. I am a bit bothered by it since I also have 383 ideas for later, but if the engine can't breath it won't make a difference.. I will just have a 372 horse engine with a bit more torque..
think I am just going to get some SLP 1 3/4 and hope for the best..

Actually, there was a post over at camaroz28.com that had the guy (Injuneer was his name I think) showing how he actually lost power going over to long tubes and didn't gain any power using long tubes until he hit somewhere like 800 hp or some other high number. He ran 1" 3/4 shorties and made more power than long tubes. I think the plataeu for shorties is more along the lines of 400 rwhp.

this is where we start getting into things like tube size, design etc.. unfortunately the fourth gens have much better options when it comes to long tubes, we don't..
I should be more specific when I say "shorties" at my power level I certainly would never buy edelbrock TES again, and would not encourage anyone else to.
My jury is out regarding the others, though bigger primary pipes sound best to me..
back to the original post, the hookers 2055 or SLP are your best choice, just make sure to post what you think of them when you are done installing

I am thinking more along the lines of the 2055's do to they dont seem to have a bunch of problems with there install but then again I would love to have 1 3/4" primaries...I hate tough decisions..lol..

I think I will get some ceramic coated 2460 hooker shortie headers with a custom 2.5" y pipe into 3" piping into a hooker aerochamber cat back...From going from my hedman LT's into 2" true duals into dynomax super turbo mufflers to this setup how much power do you think I will lose.

im gonna go for the exhaust shop all 3" y pipe, on the hooker 2460's that looks like the best to me, since slp is the only guys making 1.75 primaries i didnt bother looking at the after i saw the prices, although stainless steel sounds nice. just outta my range right now, i have the 2460's on the way right now and ill be running strait pipe till i get around to the y pipe stuff, i have to have a cat so ill wait till before inspections to get one
all the y pipes i have heard about or seen dont look to great, at the very least id buy a 2.5 to 3 inch y any thing less is same as stock, a restriction.
