Well, you guys have me sold - I just ordered my Banks exhaust for my 88 Iroc Convertible. I got the 4th gen rear - so hopefully it won't be too hard to mod to fit on the vert! Anyone ever put one on a vert before?

Now of course, I have to wait 3 weeks before it comes in : p

banks

I should be getting mine any day now. I ordered it roughly 4 (Aug 6) weeks ago...also for an 88 vert (no 4th gen rear). As of today, (i just called) engine tech doesnt even have the system in from banks yet!

Has anyone actually recieved their system recently? How long did it take? I had ordered mine a couple of weeks ago, but am getting worried about how long it's going to take - I failed my inspection because of a rusted out muffler but really did not want my car off the road for a month waiting on a muffler.

waiting on banks

I am still waiting...going on week 6! I have spoken with richard at entech several times and the hold up is with banks and not entech. he assures me that banks will ship tomorrow (9/14). But I am getting pretty impatient with this.

Hi guys:
I'm interested in the Banks Cat back, too. Can I please get someone to email me a sound clip? I love the way it looks, and I think I'm in love with 1gta2c's little running girl icon.

I guess it must have been my order that got them going - they probably have a minimum economic order quantity (EOQ) set on their MRP system - very old school manufacturing philosophy/systems - don't let me get started on that..........

But I digressed - I got my call from Entech that Banks shipped my system on 9/15 (ordered around 9/1). I can't wait to get it installed - I also picked up a set of used 1 5/8 SLP headers.

Rubyred88 - let me know if you actually got your set - I'm curious how long transit is suppose to be.

I'll post a pic once everything is installed!

still waiting

Richard from engine tech left me a message yesterday saying that banks shipped it wednesday (9/15). They (engine tech) send in orders to Banks with a minimum of 5 systems. He told me they are trying to get more and than just stock them, to avoid the long delivery delay. Banks makes these to order and does not stock them..."just in time inventory" at its finest!

It is a work of art! I called banks directly to get a ups tracking number . Cant wait to put it on. my factory system is welded on so i have to take it to the shop to get them swapped out. Hopefully next week.

Mine arrived yesterday!

You were right - it is a work of art (I got the 4th gen tips for my 88 Iroc)! I took it and my car right to my garage - hopefully they will be able to install it before this weekend!

It took about 3 weeks but right now it looks like it is worth the wait. Can't wait to hear what it sounds like!

I picked up my car today from the shop installing my Banks system.

It sounds GREAT!!!!!!!

I really like the look of the 4th gen tips on my 88 Iroc Convertible. I would recommend it without hesitation!

The only downside was the bill - the shop charged my $180 for the install since there was "extensive fitting and welding to ensure proper fit of the system". Not sure if I got picked off or what, but from my calculations, that works out to about 2.5 labor ours. Which i guess is a reasonable amount of time to install a cat back, right?

Let me know how much your placed charged to install yours.

I'll post pics later!

George

glad you like it!..the banks kit rocks:hail: Seems a bit high on the install price though!..i installed mine myself and did the rear hanger mod in about 1 hour total and DID NOT WELD ANYTHING...don't know what your installer is talking about there?..Do you have modified cats on our car or somthing that would cause the I-pipe not to match up correctly?....

Oh well, enjoy the banks!

If you had gotten the 4th gen rear, the rear hanger apparently needs to be changed to line up on a 3rd gen.

I couldn't tell you what's involved as I had paid someone to install it for me.

If I recall, you had gotten the 3rd gen rear, so the mod should not be an issue for you.

I got my system a week ago and had it put on.. it was definitly different than the flowmaster i had that was broken up. I wanted to wait a bit before i made a real judgement on it.. Right now (a week later) Its incredibly raspy... not sure if that has to do with the tuneing of the car, the fact i have no cat on it.. or if that is the way its suppose to sound. I am getting the car re-tuned soon.. then i am going to see what it sounds like.

How much did you get charged for the installation? I had gotten charged $180 (which works out to about 2.5 hours of labor) and want to know if I got over charged. There is some other work I need to get done and need to figure out if I want to do business with them again.

Thanks,

George

Does anyone know what the difference between the 3rd gen kits are?

For example, there is one for a 88-92 L03 TBI (my engine).

Is there another one for a TPI 350 engine that's better, but will work on my car.

Is this a full 3" cat back exhaust system?

I need to know what to get!

I am planning on ordering the banks kit this week, but I have a question about the tips. The third gen kit has two tips on the left side and the fourth gen has one on each side, is this corrcet?

Yes, just call engine tech (their number and website is in one of the earlier posts) and they can set you up. I got the tip on each side setup for my 88 Iroc (it is also known as the 4th gen rear) and I love the way it looks and sounds. Total cost shipped to Philladelphia was $351.00
