dual exhaust
I went to all the shops in town and they won't put a dual since its illegal. They said they can make it dual after the cat. I was wondering has anybody had somebody build them a dual after the cat and then remove the cat and cut out the section where the 2 pipes off the headers join together and then join the 2 sections with 2 straight pipes?

Actually, dual cats was an option later in the years (2 seperate pipes to 2 seperate converters) and after them, it y'd together (converter outlets merged to 1 pipe) to make a single exhaust so, duals, with cats, can be legal, technically. Just my opinion though...

It's more than an opinion, since what comes after the cat(s) isn't involved in emissions legality/illegality.
However, dual cats were only offered on TPI vehicles, so technically, they aren't legal on earlier, non-TPI vehicles.
Most muffler shops won't touch exhaust modifications from the cat forward. The fines are too stiff, even if they didn't think they were doing anything that violated the spirit of the law, so they stick to application-specific replacements only.
Haul the car in on a trailer with no license plates on the car and sign a disclaimer that it is for off-road use only, and they might install a dual system for you. The racing sanctioning body you're running with requires mufflers (wink, wink).
