I'll play the "different strokes for different folks" card here.... but in my opinion a wise choice of cat / muffler combo gives a much, much better sound than a straight pipe.... if you like it then more power to yah... btw, "d00d" needs to stop

electric cutout is the best of both worlds u have a full exhaust then when u want it to be loud with the flip of a switch there u go its loud like running open headers. and if its the side exhaust u like then u can be tacky and run a pipe from the cutout out the side

i had side exit exhaust, until i realized it sounded like ***.
i got tired of getting dirty looks from parents pushing their baby strollers when i'd drive down the street.

There are what 4 different stock manifold / y pipe combos for our cars, along with so many different cams it isnt even funny, then the induction system.
Mine sounded decent, though too intimidating, it was only like that till the new gm intermediate pipe came in, i'd leave it as it was before running a dronemaster that everyone seems to love.

No muffler + any street car = horrible. You have that 16-18 year old "I need attention" syndrome. Other 16-18 year olds may find your car as "cool sounding, d00d" but real chevy hot rodders wish you put a muffler on there, and ford hot rodders laugh at you as being "another typical camaro owner" when you drive by making all kindsa noise in a 14-15-16 second car.
As I've said 100 million times: MAKE A CAR LOUD BY ADDING HORSEPOWER NOT SUBTRACTING EXHAUST.

My muffler fell off my 84 Z28 HO once... had a nice rev sound to it, but otherwise it sounded like total ***.
Can't you actually gain horsepower with a good cat-back vs. open exhaust?
