What about the smog?

I have been looking at SLP and Hooker headers and cat-back exhausts, all look very good except for one question: will they give me problems with an inspection? Where I live right now I don't need to do a vehicle inspection, but I am planning to move to Texas shortly where I will be required to do an inspection. It seems to me that it should be alright, but will they raise my smog ratings any higher?

I am getting my info on Texas emission laws from http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/vi/

but they don't seem to give me a whole lot of info. That and the fact that I don't know a whole lot about smog seems to have me very confused on whether to purchase them or not.

Any place that has a visual inspection will require you to have AIR tubes. I would call them and ask what they look for on your particular car.

You aren't providing enough information. We don't know what year your car is, or what engine/induction it has.

Since the Texas requirements are dependant upon where in Texas you register the car, you need to say where in Texas you will be residing.

Emissions-legal headers are only legal for the application for which they claim emissions-legality. For instance, the Hooker 2055 are certified for '86-'90 TPI single cat equiped vehicles (305 or 350). If your car doesn't fit that description, then the Hooker 2055's technically are not certified for your car.

County Specific?

I just moved from Texas, Austin area/ In the entire 4 years I lived there I never had a car smog checked. Maybe it's county specific like Georgia?

Now California on the other hand... sheesh!

i just had to deal with this (sorta) i was tryin to find out about emissions exempt....in PA u still need everything and if u're exempt, and i quote "all of your pollution control devices need to be on the car but no one will ever be checking for them" so look into the county u're moving too and start e mailing them to get answers. that's what i did.....

I have friends who live in the Dallas area that have run 4th gen cars without cats for years. You really need to research your info. I'm not sure, but I don't think they have smog inspections at all???

The place I am moving to is Harris county, which supposedly needs a emissions check. But then again Dallas was listed as one of the other places that needs an inspection. Maybe Dallas county doesn't include Dallas city.

The stuff I am looking at getting says it was intended to be used with my setup, however, I still think I will take the advice and contact them (Texas, not Hooker) to see exactly what's legal and what's not.

Harris county... I'm so sorry.

Yeah, I do beleive that Houston has an emissions test strictly because of the population density there. It would make sense that Dallas would too.

Good luck.
