SLP header screwed up? check it out.

a long story short, i have the SLP 1-3/4 headers and am finally going to put them on now that i am rebuilding... well, i bought these damn things over 3 years ago just cuz they were on sale. been in the same box ever since so i go open them up today to do a fit check to see if my new wiring routing is going to interfere, and the driver side header appears to have the "collector" on wrong. and i say this because as it sit on the engine, the exhaust will not go straight down to the pipe - instead it angles forward towards the frame and also the o2 bung is inboard towards the motor instead of facing forward like it does on the stock manifold. correct me if i'm wrong, but it doesn't look right. now with that said, i've heard nothing but crap about SLP's customer service, so imagine the battle at hand when i try to explain this to them after having bought them over 3 years ago... i don't have a picture to post now, but can probably get one tomorrow.

I don't know what to tell you on that other than the only way to be sure is to try to find some installed pics to see if yours will look similar. If you can do a dry run install just to be sure, then do it. I don't think the folks at SLP are gonna be very helpful, it has been some time!!! Hope it works out for ya...

Just sell the damn things on ebay and get some Hooker LTs. Then you will have all kinds of headaches, but at least you'll have longtubes!!!

i think the o2 bung being on the inside is standard practice for header companies. my hookers have it on the inside and the wire is long enough to reach it

cool - maybe that's the way it goes then. just didn't seem right. do you have a picture of how yours looks installed on the driver side? also, what else do i need for the install? i think there's a kit which i didn't get at the time cuz i wasn't ready. all i have are the 2 headers, 2 short pipes and 1 longer pipe. also, i have AIR and dual cats so was wondering how all that is supposed to hook up, too. i have the receipt, still, but there was no diagram with all this stuff and i'm just trying to piece it all together so i can get the remainder of whatever parts i need. i still have to get the cats (any recommendations?) and putting on a full cat-back system. (i do have that)

btw, i had bought these headers 4 years ago... 7/31/00...

Thunderstick,

My SLP are the same way. NO WORRIES!!!!

The collector does actually angle forward, and the o2 bung does face inward.
