u can buy them coated from places like jet-hot and acs but many people have had bad experiences with acs's coatings. or you can buy the headers and y pipe through jegs or summit and send them to jet-hot to get coated. but then you are paying a lot in shipping.

There are two reasons the application is limited:
1) What factory systems the headers will fit directly to.
2) What they are emissions certified for.
For item 1), the issue is the cat. If you have an '85 cat on the car, the y-pipe won't fit directly to it. Your choices are to get a cat that is a direct-fit for the '86-'90 TPI single-cat application, or modify the cat so it will fit the y-pipe (modifying the cat is, in my opinion, a better choice than modifying the y-pipe).
For item 2), depends upon the anality of the emissions inspection program in your area. Technically, they are not certified for an '82 Z. But, the inspection here, after looking long and hard at the under-hood decals on my car, didn't say anything, closed the hood, and pulled it on to the dyno for the sniffer. Afterwards, they told me, "Good job." California inspectors may not be so "understanding".
From what I've seen on this forum, ACS has had some customer service issues. I haven't heard anyone complain about the quality of the finished product (seem to recall someone getting the wrong Hedman pieces, though). People's experiences with Jet Hot seem to be primarily positive, but there are always the exceptions. I haven't heard overwhelming praise for the coating provided by Hooker.

They will fit your chassis just fine though.

Since the question was specific to the 2055's, my response was aimed at them specifically.
