new dual exhaust pics that i promised
i used the summit mufflers part number 633222. i absolutely love the sound. comparable sound to flowmaster. i am very impressed. ground clearance seems to be pretty good too. don't mind the miss-matched wheels, i am painting the rears to match the fronts before the end of the week (hopefully). remember, i have 275/60/15 tires, so my clearance is a little better than most. i hope to have the system welded up within the week also (was waiting for my dad to return home with the welder)

Now just get yourself some high temp black paint and you'll never know it's there!! Looks good.

Do you have an H-pipe or anything? Is there anyway you could get it up on jack stands and take a photo of the whole thing from under the car. I'm interested in doing something along the lines of that and just want to see what it looks like, placement wise, under the car. Great job.

i never thought to use high temp black paint. how high of a temp should it be rated for? i know what i'm doing this winter now with my exhaust. flat black high temp all the way.

I just got some of that ceramic high temp header paint. Let the car run for awhile to get the pipes good and warm and sprayed the heck out of it.
Just my personal opinion but exhaust should be heard not seen
and since we got the short end on our cars with ground clearance, painting it helps it blend into the shadows.

LOL, not bad for your 3rd time. Nice layout underneath, looks clean. Next time for better welds touch up the areas that are old with a grinder to get into some "fresh" metal as any oil or garbage screw the welds up faster than you can blink, after it's touched up go over the metal with a rag and some break clean to get any remaining residue off-this helps a bunch especailly on exhaust peices.
Turn the heat up a little more also, the welds dont look to have very good penetration. Beings how it's exhaust it wont matter since it's basically just holding peices together. Practice practice practice
Gotta buddy that always has me weld for him and the past 2 yrs I've been telling him to start it out and I'll see how he's doing. Getting better but still not "pretty" welds.
Anyways, nice work.

Very nice!
..And it just occured to me how I can get past the issues with jacking up the front right side of the car without some fancy jack placement..

FWIW, next time, try turning the turndowns inward slightly rather then outward. Usually that kills some of the droning inside the car by canceling some of it out, so basically you’re left with a nice, low base note. My brother’s car actually ended up slightly quieter inside (it basically lost the interior droaning) going from 2.5” full length duals to 3” turndowns, but it gained a really cool, ground pounding base note (standing next to it idling it feels like the ground is actually thumping with the car).

thanks mark,
i thought of doing this as i have known about that trick for a few years. but for some reason, i like the way this sounds better. strange, i know. but thanks none the less. and thanks for the compliments on my welds, even though they are **** poor. i am starting a welding certification class next month, i should be certified in TIG welding by Christmas.

it's dual 2.5's, i don't have any sound clips but imagine a sbc with a cam and flowmaster and that's pretty much what it sounds like, but they aren't flowmasters, they are summit racing "welded chambered" mufflers. summit p/n 633222. they were 39.99 a piece, but i think they are like 41.99 or something now, still really cheap and they work really well. they're like a 3 chamber muffler so they aren't really loud or droning like my moroso spiral mufflers used to be. i really am pleased, still 5 months after i put it on the car.

MIG is not exactly easy to get nice welds on with thin guage exhaust tubing. I can usually get an even bead, but I really tell most people that if you have something that does not leak on 16 or especially 18ga tubing then you did OK.
Personally, I wouldn’t waste my time tigging exhaust unless it was a showcar or something so delicate that you really couldn’t do it with a MIG.

that would majorly suck TIG welding a complete exhaust...who cares abotu the welds anyways they are under the car, all that matters is if they seal it....the reason that bead in the picture looks so good is because its on really thick gauge metal (exhaust flange)...but if you can weld them, and they stick together, thats good enough

That is exactly why it looks like that, and I never made out that there was any other reason. My friend that owns the car said “do something cool with the weld” and I said “sure, how’s this? You could tell everyone that you spent the $$$ and had this thing custom TIGed”
Take a look at the dynomax setup that I posted in the dynomax exhaust thread, the welds are almost as nice and maybe slightly cleaner on the 18 and 16ga exhaust tube, minus the pretty pattern. FWIW, if I remember right the above pic was done with flux core (for those of you that keep saying that you can’t make nice welds with flux core).
