How are you auto guys planning on running the wire from the switch to the plate? I cant seem to find a route that I like much yet. So far my best option seems to be across the psgr dash, into the fender, along the gfx and then to the cutout where the cat used to be?

 

no, I haven't tracked it yet. Oh, I'm an auto guy, but my plan of wiring it is to swap to a t56 (its going in after a 350 tpi/t56 swap)

hey, just telling you my wiring plans, lol. oh, went through the tracking thing and found out that its "in transit" and will arive on the 12th.. can't wait!

 

well, I was working on my black interior swap today, and was pleasantly suprised when my local ups guy parked right infront of the driveway. I signed the digital signing thingamajig, tore open the box, and immediately had to throw it on the cut out. I'm very happy to have it, however the wingnuts are a bit wide for the grooves next to the bolt holes, and it seems like i'll have to grind down a little bit of metal from the mccord plate... anyone else have this issue?

yeah I had that issue on my summit cutout too. I just went and bought some regular bolts for it.

 

dont use wing nuts.
use regular nuts / bolts and USE LOCKTITE.

i think it even says that in the directions, but im not sure.
but trust me... regular bolts, and locktite.

Well I installed mine today. I had to grind at the reliefs because the bolts I used were still too big. I did a real hack job on that, but whatever. They fit on properly now. I did not use lock-tite yet, but tomorrow I am finishing up the install and I will use it then.

What a PITA it was to install this thing though. Even in a fully equipped shop. I was a little rushed because the teacher was leaving soon, but still.. Anyhow, I cut the pipe and went to put the cutout on, and was advised that I should use universal pipe connectors instead of just welding, because otherwise I wouldnt get a good seal. So as a result, the install looks like ***. But I dont much care, because nobody's going to see it anyways. The connectord leak a little, so I have to go under there tomorrow and use clamps. It's just tack-welded in place right now. After I do that, I'll be done.

As for routing the wire... I covered it in some of that plastic stuff and ran it tucked in the ground effects like RedRaif told me to, and then up through the fender. That was pretty tricky, and after like an hour of cursing and bruised knuckles, I just pushed out a grommet and ran it in that way. Across the dash, and then I was able to lift up the lip of the console enough to puch the connector through (and again I have RedRaif to thank for that tip.

And man, the thing sounds so freakin' awesome. I'm in high school, and I was in the shop doing the install, and some guys from another class were watching me, and they couldnt believe how cool it was.

I'm having a little trouble with it not wanting to close when wide open. I dont know what it is, but I think it's either the switch being dumb (because I cracked it during install ) or if it's the plate settling or something. Might have overtightened a bolt, I dont know.

Anyhow here's one quick pic of the thing...

 

awesome to see it installed... I posted my pic up on my local club's forums and a few guys have told me to spray the thing with WD-40 every so often, so that's probably what you're experiencing now.
