Cat plugged, fixed, now what?

Cat plugged, fixed, now what?

OK I've had an intermittent problem with my cats getting plugged, it finally backing up until it all blew out for a good 6 months. Don't ask me why I didn't do anything until now, it's a long story.

I took a hacksaw to the pipes before and after the cat, and got it out. I threw that out. Now I have a huge hole in the exhaust where the cat used to be. I rigged it because I had to be at work in an hour.

I used a 18 inch long piece of straight pipe, an adaptor and this flexible pipe that (MOSTLY) worked. Now its very loud of course, but it works great, and no more plugged cat.

6 months later driving around like this, I'm sick of it. Every so often the rig comes off and I gotta stop and put it back on, the clamps don't exactly get it tight enough, and so on.

My friend said I should put a cherry bomb in that space. Is that around the right size for it? I am not spending any money on something that will plug up later on. I don't want to hear about backpressure, or emissions. When they bring that back in south florida I'll worry till then, I'm killin bambi.

Well, I would not want to give you any illegal advice but from what I've seen, some people simply gut the cat (beat the internals out) and stick it back in. Free flowing cat.

Once again, it might be illegal in some states and I am NOT encouraging you to do that. Just stating what others have done.

Just get someone to weld a peice of pipe to connect the exhaust for you. I'm sure it wouldn't cost more than $45 for such a simple job.

We don't have inspections in Florida, so that's not a big deal. I wouldn't recommend gutting the cat though. I've read that removing the internals just makes more turbulence in the exhaust rather than making it more free flowing.
