headers have a dent in them for clearance???

I just bought a set of flowtech long tube ceramic coated headers and when they got here they had a dent in the drivers side front primary tube right after the first bend, so I took them back and exchanged them and yet again a dent in the same place, so once again exchanged them and they came in today went to pic them up and still dent in the exact same place!!!!!! We called the tech support at flow tech and they were closed. the guy at Advanced Auto siad it could be a clearance for the spark plug and supposed to be there??? does this make any sense to you all?? I have never seen a header come dented to make room to get to the plug, I have seen alot of them that someone dented out of frustration to get clearance in one place or the other lol.

I have the #5 tube flattened in order to get the 396 w/B-body headers in past the steering gear. I've seen even worse things done to headers in cars that are quicker than mine.

I don't know specifics about the ones you're seeing, but it wouldn't surprise me. Probably won't affect performance.

Flowtech long tubes for thirdgens, huh? I didn't know they made them. Just curious to see what they look like, if you can get a pic posted. What size are the primaries and the collector? Sorry I can't help.

I bought Flowtech's longtubes...I should have spent the money on shorties. The collector sits RIGHT up against the subframe, and even if i had the time, you couldn't pay me enough to try to put together an exhaust with that little clearance...that's why I'm paying someone else. Mine (non-coated) also has a slight dent for plug clearance on the driver's side. Save money for shorties, since you can't take them back since they were special ordered. Shorties will be well worth the time and money. Hell, even longtubes from someone OTHER than flowtech.

....just my

Did you try using a thiner trans mount?? That would lower the back of the engine as well as the collectors on the headers. I think this might work, I will have to try it cause there is no way I can afford a new set of headers, lol
