wire protection with headers?

well, finally got the new engine lit off sunday and almost cooked a couple of wires. namely the temp indicator, fan switch, and main bundle behind the driver head... oh, and a couple of plug wires, even tho i was trying to keep an eye on them... anyhow, what do you guys use to secure and safely route your wires? i put all new loom on them, and the main bundle really just showed signs of the loom getting too warm, but i have to do something i know will work to keep the heat away. i was thinking of re-using my old manifold shields to make something to keep the main bundle away from the #7 tube and use that high temp stuff on the temp and fan switch. it seems to be ok around the heads and block, i'm sure due to those being somewhat cooled. the main bundle is not attached at the trans-to-engine bolts anymore, either - runs behind the heads instead, but pretty much in the same area as before. just did it that way this time so the harness stays out of the way of the firewall wheen lowering the trans.

Biggest problem with plug wires and headers is a the Plug Boot itself.
I solved that by using 90 deg boots and LT1 heat shields. The Shields cost about a $1.75 ea from the dealer, a good investment.

i have 90* boots on my wires (msd) so good there. are those shields for stock manifolds? i still have mine, but wondered if LT1 shields are different?

The LT1 shields are 90 deg metal shapes for EACH spark plug boot. They are not the manifold cover from the stock exhaust.
