QTEC vs McCord
Been doin a lot of searching, I just want to get a few things strieght on these two electric exhaust cutouts.
The QTP is $190 and the McCord is $110 w/ a warentee.
Here is my question, is the McCord just a powerplate that you have to physically put on to a regular cuttout that you would purchase separatly?
http://www.quicktimeperformance.com/...uct_detail&p=3
http://www.mccordcg.com/mpp/mpp.htm
Which would you go with, Im runnin Edelbrock 3in TES headers and I want the cutout before the Cat. I dont care about the price difference.

Well 110 + 35 from summit = 145, but you dont care.
I would go with the mccord. mmm...warranty...
Plus, the Mccord has a LED and other stuff. With all the advancements they have made, I really believe it is the better of the two. Want proof of my sentiments? I just bought a Mccord.

edit: oops, my bad. 26, not 35. I think mine came out to 35 Canadian. And I got a $15USD gift certificate from them with the purchase

will any 3in exhaust cut out work, or is there a certain shape or kind I should get.
So basically how this is going to work is a regular 3-wing nut cut out is going to have an electric cutout instead of the wingnut cover?

as far as wiring one of these bad boys in, is it hard? I read the install instructions, but where would i find a "hot" 12v ignition wire to splice this into?

I asked Trickster about it. You can tap into junction c236, IIRC, which is behind the driver side kickpanel. Alternately, you can tap into the fustbox (do a search for my name and you will find the thread) or, you can do what I will probably do: tap into the orange wire leading to the cigarette lighter and use that. This is not a switched source, however, so you would want to also install a toggle switch. I will probably do this for a while, and then switch to the junction Trickster told me about a little later down the road...
Only thing I havent quite figured out yet is how to get the wire from the cutout to the switch in my automatic, but I see you have a standard so you will probably be able to run it through the lower shifter boot, whereas I will likely have to runit up and through the hole in the psgr fender where all of the wiring goes form the engine to the computer. (for me that is, USED to go.
)
Btw you need a power, ground, and then just run the wire to cutout and you're done.

it's very easy to install....just hooked up to a power source and a ground. I hooked mine into the fuse box...which was very easy. Also, I had to take some of my carpet up and run my wires though the floorboards...very easy installation. I've had McCord going on 2 years now with no problems...I love it

when you run it throught the fuse box, its not "hot" its accessory right, but it rele dosent make a difference... just that you could also move the motor when the key is turned to accessory, right? Cause that seems alot easier than tapping into ignition wires.

Well here's how I set mine up.. JUST finished doing this, too. Not fifteen minutes ago. I have the rockerswitch between the pwr window switches, and then that toggle switch where the cigarette lighter used to be is the main power switch, because it is tapped into the cigarette lighter wire, which is always hot.
Oh and ignore that other switch by the rockerswitch, that's just for the antenna.

my camaro is completly base, i have no power windows, hatch release, seat motor, door locks, etc. My question is, is my fuse box the same as a car that does have all thes options, in case i wanted to tap into them for something like my electric cutout?
also what kind of connector do i get to tap into the fues box (one from a store not a scrap yard) and how do i know what spot on my fuse box to tap into?

Yeah you can use the one in the lower left called "IGN". It's only hot when the key is on.

Sorry for it being blurry. This is a 'file photo' I took a while ago. See on the lower left there, the two labelled IGN?

ok, but they dont look big enought to insert a regular sized fuse, so how do u get the wire in there, also do you insert the power and ground in the fuse box, or you ground it separatly on the chassis?

I would ground it seperately. And you dont need to stick a fuse in there, the mccord comes with an inline one already.

I dont know. I tried to get at it from the back, but I decided to instead be lazy and just tap the cigarette lighter wire. 3 months, no problems.

i just installed the power plate today, i didnt tapp into the fuse box or cigarette ligher, i just ran a new line to the battery and connected it to a relay switched by the ignition... so it only works when the car is on.
the plate is fully functional, and i am going to have the cuttout welded in tommorow, I will post pics soon.
