so i have uhm... a 305 tbi with no cat, going back to no muffler, how do i keep theu h.. sound but get rid of the raspyness? there has to be some way to do it. i LIKE the volume / sound at throttle but the raspyness is kinda embarrasing / gh3y.

Try throwing a high flow cat on it, should help.

You could also try a small glasspack or resonator, but the cat would probably be most effective.

Put a Dynomax Bullet where the Cat should be. Those things fix everyone's problems huh??

Get a cat. All rasp should dissapear provided you don't have a flowmaster as well.

That has very little to do with the exhaust. Its mainly due to the weak engine in front of it. A single system with a Flowmaster can sound great without a cat . Just don't ever use Flowmaster's 80 series muffler for comparison... ever!

sp63 - Let's get this straight. You have a weak V8 with stock manifolds, no catalytic converter and no muffler and you're complaining about the exhaust sound?

wrong.

i didnt "choose" to have no cat. the previous owner did that when he redid the exhuast i guess. the carh as 2 1/4 piping (crush bends) no cat and a IMCO muffler.

i just took off the muffler one day to see how it would sound. sounds fine except for the raspy stuff. i didnt complain about ANYTHING. i asked how to seperate the good sound from the raspy sound.

maybe if you werent being a dick on purpose or inadvertantly you wouldnt feel bad now (unless of course you ARE being a dick on purpose).
