Good pipe size for 305

Ask you guys what the best pipe size would be for a 305 TPI motor. At first I wanted a 3" system but now I'm thinking more on the lines of 2/12 or 2/34 pipe. What do you guys suggest? I'm doing a Y-Pipe setup on my GTA and just wanted to know what you guys thought. Also, suggestions for headers? Fitment issues? What about a cat, whats my best buy with this? Thanks in advance

3" system is the way to go. Your car already has a 2.5 (if not 2.75") system already.

i have 3" true dual and i must say... it prolly helps the 305 breathe much easier. many ppl bang our motor for power but i find that it pulls hard with my set up. i also have hooker super comp headers, flowmaster 40s

First of all..3 Inch dual Exhaust on a 305 is totally idiotic.Your car is puking out its intestines! You are losing power not gaining anything.

3 inch exhaust is plenty big for a 305 but dual 3 inch?!??

Christ, ive seen dual 2.5 inch on a 87 monte ss but still not as big as yours.I guarantee your losing power.

Single 3" is great for that car. Dual 3" is too much for a 305. 3" duals is losing power on that small of a motor. Unless you are pushing 500 fwhp 3" is losing power. If you must run duals on a 5.0 car use 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 inch pipe. Single exhaust run 3" and there are plenty of aftermarket companies that offer setups like this for very affordable prices.

Agreed.

I bet you would be quite pleased if you downsized a bit. Heck, 450rwhp LS1 cars only run a single 3".

I wasn't actually asking about a dual 3" system. I was refering to a Y-Pipe system. Was thinking about getting the Hooker aerochamber. So 3" is too big? I was told that it would be overkill for a 305.

3" single exhaust is great for that car. Thats what Im running and it has all kinds of power. There is just no use for 3" true dual exhaust on a 305.

I see...

My buddy has a '90 IROC with a factory dual exhaust with chambered mufflers. How much would that cost?

He has the dual cat option. A single 3" cat back can be had for $250.
