what effect does NOT having AIR tubes attached to cats have?
i was just wondering (until i figure how i'm gonna do it) what effect does it have, short term or long term, if i don't hook up the tubes that go to the cat converters. (the ones that come off the AIR system) seems like all that thing does is blow air out of it and in to the cats, so what does it really do? and, no, the car is NOT inspected for emmissions...

all the Air system does is to pump air into the cats to help bring them to operating tempature faster ( 600* F ) that way the cats are funtioning properly as the car enters closed loop.

That's not quite right. The A.I.R. is routed to the manifolds until the system goes to closed loop. The flow is then routed to the cat. It provides more oxygen to aid in the conversion of CO to CO2. Its purpose is to lower emissions. Not having it hooked up will raise the undesirable emissions your car produces.

well said five7kid.
i was assuming that he was removing the entire engine managment system and in that case the air system would be inactive already so removing the components would not pose a problem other than a belt rerouting.

so short term not being connected doesn't harm anything, other than undesireable emmisions. another question that i've asked before is what type of tubing to use and someone said silicone rubber, but the place i know of to get different kinds of tubing and hoses doesn't have a clue, so i would like to use a flexible type tube and was thinking maybe heater/ radiator hose?
