Hey chris, are you setup to blast/clean the parts first or does that depend on the prep that was done before they were sent to you?

I prefer they get sent in right off the car etc. I prefer to do the prep myself. Kinda like if you take a pre preped car to get painted. You Know a good painter is picky and rather do the body work himself.

Same goes with coatings. Someone might think "Mmm, I'll blast em with Aluminumoxide to get all that rust off." Bad idea. Its to rough and actually dimples headers.

These look bad in person.

Do the benifiets out weigh the cost to have this done? I mean, to have a set of headers AND y pipe done you proberbly looking at $200-$250. Thats a lot of money to spen on something like that.

I would have to say it is worth it to have the parts coated. Yes, it is a bit expensive, but with the coating the parts will last a lot longer than if un-coated, or just painted. Especially if the car is driven a lot. With coaters like TPI383 offering a lifetime guarantee on coatings on new parts, that says something about how long the part is likely to last once it is coated.

Compare it to the cost of replacing uncoated pipes(don't forget the labor) when they rust through, then it might not seem quite so expensive. Then there is the appearance factor, ceramic coated looks so much better than old rusty header pipes.

well, I have a set of coated SLP headers and to tell you the truth, they dont look to good anymore. sometimes Iwonder if SLP would ever redo them for me but then I remember that its SLP.My headers are the first things that I have owned that have a coating on them and the results dont look good now so Im concerned about spending money on this process

From everything that I have heard/read about the factory coatings, they are just not up to par with aftermarket coaters. Case in point, I have a friend that had a set of edelbrock coated headers on his Monte SS, and the coating starting coming off after a few years, and it was only driven in good weather. Not familiar with SLP's coatings though, maybe someone else here is.

I have seen users on these boards talk about aftermarket coatings that still look almost as good as new a few years later. I spent a lot of time reading/researching the topic before I got my coated headers/ypipe. The extra cost was a big concern for me as well, but in the end I decided to go the extra cost now for both the longevity and looks. Only time will tell for sure if it was the right choice.
