Modifying the ball flanges on 2055s?

Transmission: 700r4, 2200-2400 stall, vette servo
Axle/Gears: stock pegleg 2.73 drum (temp)
Modifying the ball flanges on 2055s?
How many of you guys have cut the flange down a little to allow for better airflow? How far down did you trim it? What tool did you use (bandsaw/hacksaw? torch? grinder?) and do you have a good seal still?

1) Trial fit the y-pipe to the headers as installed in the car.
2) Remove y-pipe and determine where the y-pipe mates to each ball flange.
3) Using 4" high speed angle grinder, open up the ball centered where the y-pipe mates. Clean up flashing with die grinder if necessary (my die grinder wouldn't touch the flange itself, but the angle grinder did a bang-up job).
No leakage problems.
