2 questions.....I'm planning on running Hedman 68468 long tubes in the same sort of setup as "Traxion's" custom y-pipe. The system will be a 3" single all the way to the tailpipes. Anyways, these hedders are ceramic coated but don't come with a o2 bung. Hedman has a part # for a 3" reducer (which doesn't reduce as far a I can tell, looks like it stays 3") with a o2 bung, or I can just weld one in after the collector.......
Question #1 If I wrap these headers (which would be a shame cause the thermal coating looks great.) would I still need a heated o2 sensor?
Question #2 Would the ceramic coating keep the exhaust gas temp high enough not to bother with the heated o2 sensor.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated, I'd hate to buy the heated o2 and 3 wire adapter if I didn't need too.

 

You probably dont need a heated O2 sensor, but it will definitely be better to have one.

As for wrap... don't. You don't need it, because ceramic coating does the same job better, and theres still a possibility of it soaking up some loose oil or fuel and starting a fire.

 

Since it's underhood temps you're worried about (as opposed to exhaust gas temp), look into a heat shield for the headers instead of wrapping them. It'll block heat from the engine bay. You gotta be careful with wrapping in order to do it correctly, heat shields are easier.

if you did wanna keep the exhaust gas as hot as possible, wrapping the headers would be pointless without wrapping the entire exhaus system. Most people dont go that far.
