dual converter('91 Z28)

I got a '91 Z28 350 L98, I want to redo my exhaust; headers, dual all the way back; anyways there is a small tube that runs from each of my converters up towards the engine, can these be removed? and will it cause an engine light to come on if they are? What purpose do these things serve anyways? ..........and lastly, is it better to stick with one big muffler(factory style) or change to 2 smaller ones. There's not a lot of room under there to work with, and I do not want any pipes that hang lower than the factory ones do now. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

The tubes from the CATS are air tubes....it's part of the emissions on the vehicle. I can't tell you for sure if the engine light will go on if they're removed, BUT if they aren't connected to your CATS I can almost guarantee the CATS will be destroyed very quickly.
As far as what's better...one muffler or 2 small ones...that's really a matter of preference. It depends on brand, sound, space requirements etc.

I currently have my air tubes disconnected from the cats, becuase i had the cats taken off. There is no check engine light on. If your going to be doing the exhaust work yourself i would look up some threads on people doing true duals otherwise im going to give you a good luck on getting any exhaust shop to do it, i know i tried for a long damn time. If you get true duals get the 2 smaller mufflers but if not stick with the factory big one with dual outlets.

Ran mine for 2 years without A.I.R., put the system back on and breezed through the sniffer. With a destroyed cat, no way it would have passed.

Just took it off last week as part of the shortblock swap. Looks fine inside.
