Do headers pretty much do-away with stock sound?
Call me crazy, but the sound of my car with the pipe behind the cat unbolted sounds awesome. It's a very deep and powerful sound, very bassy. I've heard cars with headers and it doesn't sound the same, more tinny and has more trebble to it, plus the hollow ticking sound. I know it has more power because the factory exhaust sucks.
Is there a header that isn't so tinny and retains most of the factory exhaust note?
Does this post make sense?

Yeah, don't be that guy without a catback. I can't answer you're question becuase I did headers at the same time as the rest of my system.

I'm still going with headers, just want to know. And I still have the cat-back, it's just not hooked up and I pushed the pipe to the side. Instant cutout! Although, not so instant to cap it like a cutout. More like 10 minutes of yelling and bitching.

Yes and no.
Some guys have headers and their cars are quite loud. Others, still sound stock-like. Not only headers, but a combination of pipe size, cat or no cat, and mufflers are also factored into your exhaust note.
I just installed a set of Hooker headers and a Dynomax cat-back. I deleted the cat and the sound is nice. It has a good rumble to it; a bit more than stock. It's noticable, but not annoying at all. I'm gonig to let the muffler break in and then see how I like it before deciding how much I like it.
